Article on TN DNC Delegates
The blurb on Google says that TN DNC delegates are coming down on Dean's side in DNC race (but this is a registration only site and I'm not registered). Here's the link:

If anyone sees another article on the TN delegation, please post it. Thanks! :)

1. as a tennessee person i can see where dean would get the thumbs up
tennessee is SO FRAGMENTED in terms of how the national league of folk "stoop to our level" that it's hard to say anything meaningful that the local level could assert.

i'll tell you this tho -- except for the peace movement -- the TN leftie delegation is in tatters. we get traction here and there with local races and state races -- but nothing like the grand old days of having sasser and gore both in office. people working at the grassroots feel very left behind.

so, yeah, go DEAN.

one other thing -- seems like DNC is a fundraising arm, anywho -- dean's got the fundraising thing downpat. give the man a chance.

4. I'm registered
Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean won the backing of state Democratic Party leaders Monday for chairmanship of the Democratic National Committee. Tennessee Democratic Chairman Randy Button, however, was not among Dean's supporters.

State chairmen and vice chairmen, as the Association of State Democratic Chairs, were polled in a national conference call. Dean received 56 votes and Democratic activist Donnie Fowler won 21.

Button was one of three voting for former Indiana Rep. Tim Roemer. State vice chair Elisa Parker voted for Dean, said Corinne Ciocia, a spokeswoman for the Tennessee Democratic Party.

Mark Brewer, chairman of the Association of State Democratic Chairs, said all state chairs and vice chairs would be asked to follow the group's endorsements Feb. 12 when the election is conducted.

The headline was a bit misleading. It looks like it was split one and one.

5. Thanks for the additional info!

I was wondering about that ... it was a surprise to hear. I really appreciate you posting more of the substance of the article. Did it say anything about the rest of the delegation, besides the chairs?

6. Nope
Just talks about those two as if they were the only two who voted.

Here's why:

State chairmen and vice chairmen, as the Association of State Democratic Chairs, were polled in a national conference call. Dean received 56 votes and Democratic activist Donnie Fowler won 21.

The poll only asked for the chair and vice-chair's input - not that of the entire delegation.

7. Boy, that Google blurb is misleading...
Edited on Tue Feb-01-05 01:26 AM by BlueInRed
Here's what the headline was exactly:
"Tennessee Democrats come down on Dean's side in run to lead party. Knoxville News Sentinel (subscription), TN - 1 hour ago". Because I didn't trust the headline, I didn't go with it in the subject line. Boy am I glad I didn't!
