Donna Brazile describes some at DNC as "bottom dwelling fish-
check out kos

but here is a sampling from Donna:

The bigger fish in the Democratic pond (the party is still swimming upstream) are truly bottom feeders eating away their young, casting aside callously their base and ignorant of the sharks circling our old coalitions. They have dismissed an entire generation of potential leaders when they held power by failing to lift up those who were coming behind. With you, some of the people who have been kept down found their voice. No matter what happens next week, keep fighting for them.

44. I disagree. To use your phraseology...
... I would say "continue to distrust her, but see what she says/does tomorrow". But I'm uncomfortable with using "trust" in this case, because I don't think she is deliberately trying to undermine the the progressive cause, unlike other supposed "Democrats" *cough* Lieberman *cough*. I just think she has been mis-cast.

She has sucked mightily in her recent roles, but I think she could be good in other ones. She communicates well on TV: I just wish someone else would provide her with the message and not give her responsibility for something as important as Gore's 2000 Presidential Campaign.

15. Yes, but I've found that most people are allergic to positive threads &
posts so I always like to ad a little zinger to make sure I get a good read.

When I was trying to be positive and get everyone together no one would read. When I'm snarky and negative people dive in like it's a pool filled with Jello Pudding- Chocolate even!

A filibuster on Gonzalez would've produced a bumper crop of positive threads. Instead, our fearless leader Reid gave the repukes an up or down vote; exactly what King Bush wanted!!

42. I like and respect Donna a lot. She's one helluva woman, IMHO...
Edited on Tue Feb-01-05 09:44 PM by Kahuna
When she dissed Clark on Inside Politics, a bunch of us sent her emails. A lot of the emails were very contentious. Donna took the time to respond to me while she was on an airplane. She wasn't a whimp either. We exchanged some very sharp words and thoughts. In the end, we parted on a very friendly and respectful basis. AND, she stopped dissing Clark.

Donna is not perfect. None of us are. What I respect about her is that she IS willing to listen and learn from the grassroots. God bless her. I wish there were more "Dem Strategists" ( :>/ ) like her.

Donna, if you catch this thread.... :loveya: :yourock:

Some of those "bottom feeders" spent more energy attacking Dean during the Primaries and Nader during the GE than they did Bush and the Repukes. These creeps need to be hauled out of the Party and sent to the dustbin of history.

10. It does sound ominous.
But I see no reason to believe at this point that anything is other than it seems.

According to Kos' numbers, Dean has 23% of the vote right now- WAY ahead of everyone else. I've seen other numbers around, of course...but...

20. I'm wondering about that too. Pretty strong stuff.
It's interesting how many Democrats have specifically stated that they are not part of any stop Dean movement i.e. Bob Kerrey, Ted Kennedy, John Kerry.

Now Donna Brazile is calling the party bigwigs bottom feeders. That's pretty strong stuff. Hopefully they've overplayed their hand and managed to turn off enough potential allies so that whatever they do won't make much of a difference.

That being said I wouldn't be shocked if something happened in the next two weeks to damage Dean's chances.

9. Donna has stepped up to the plate on a few issues
since Kerry won the nomination. She has bucked some party leaders in the process and prodded others. Not saying you have to see her as a leader for a new generation, but don't just write her off as only being interested in caverning her own back either.

21. Who's the bottom dweller?
Sounds like Brazille's the one with her head in the sand.

We've been tending to our base for the past thirty years, instead of seeking to expand it. Guess what? Our base keeps getting smaller and smaller. And now we've reached the point where we were are so far in the minority, that we have absolutely zero impact on public policy, and aren't able to do squat for our base.

We tried the "mobilize your base" strategy in both 2000 and 2004. That kind of strategy leaves us competitive in around twenty or so states, which simply isn't enough to build a reliable electoral vote majority. Karl Rove and company would be more than happy to have the Democrats wage a polarizing, appeal to your base strategy, because it makes it even easier for them to mobilize their own base, which happens to be larger than ours.

35. That's a load of crap
The Democratic Party establishment has been kow-towing to all the powerful Democratic interest groups for decades. It's impossible to get the nomination if you piss off organized labor, civil rights groups, and abortion rights groups. Everyone around here remembers Bill Clinton's Sister Soljah momement, but everyone seems to forget just how far Clinton moved to the left on social issues, compared to where he was in Arkansas. Fear of offending civil rights groups allowed us to be outflanked on issues like welfare reform. Fear of offending labor groups allowed us to be outflanked on homeland securities. Our party has been hemorraging voters for decades over cultural issues because it's leaders are affraid to offend parts of its "base." Well now we've got nothing but base left, and even that isn't going to stick around for long, because who wants to belong to a party that has now power in Washington?

Edited on Tue Feb-01-05 09:12 PM by Clarks_Babe
Women, minorities and labor are the people who vote for and organize for my party. Do you want to drive them away? Why would they vote for democrats who do not support the issues which directly effect their lives?

41. Thanks for proving my point
Apparently, you have completely bought in to the strategy that has shrunk the party base to the point where the Democratic Party, for all practical purposes, has absolutely no ability to shape federal policy.

Hard as it is to believe, there was once a time when the Democratic Party appealed to voters across gender lines, racial lines and geographic lines. We used to be the majority party back then too.

While I think the media is pro Bush, I also agree that we cant blame them for our probblems anymore- we have to go into the fight knowing what is against us & stop the excuses.
