Could someone please explain to me how the Dems plan to win votes
by capitulating to the Repubs?

I mean, they wonder why they're seen as soft on defense while they are backing down and surrendering to their political opponents.

Don't they realize that people see this and say, "If they'll give in to people who can't actually hurt them, what will they do when someone points a weapon at them."

Remember, social policies ALWAYS take a back seat to survival, and as long as repubs seem much stronger on defense, they will have that ace up their sleeve.

2. Easy.
Gun control. We could capitulate that.

3. That wouldn't turn over very many voters, though.
The only issue I could think of is Abortion, and we'd drive more out than we'd bring in.

8. You don't need to turn over that many.
The Republicans know this. They don't try to convince everyone of their philosophy, and they don't care if we know they're doing bad things because all they have to do is put a slight number of voters over the line. The religious right isn't that big of a voting bloc, but it's enough to put them over.

4. what makes you so sure that is what they intend on capitulating?
based on voting to affirm cabinet appointments? That's not a very good measure because of the prevailing view, codified in the Constitution, that the president has a right to choose his own cabinet.

It seems to me the verdict is still out on how Democrats will respond to their current powerlessness.

6. It worked great in 2000, 2002 & 2004. Now stop "bashing."

7. Sure, let me explain how it works. The strategy is that the Dems
plan to get down on their knees in front of the Republicans, wave little white flags, & whimper piteously for a while. Then they will cry, roll over flat on their backs, whimper some more, and beg for mercy. Then, when the Republicans start laughing uproariously, so hard they can't even see straight, the Dems will suddenly spring to their feet and make their move.

Remember, you read it here first!
