State of the Union
As President Bush begins his second term, it is fitting that Democrats take stock of where our nation stands, where we are headed, and the challenges we face. We are ready to work with Republicans to find common ground where we can, and to stand our ground where we cannot. Democrats are fighting to restore fiscal responsibility and hold those in power responsible for their actions. We must promote opportunity for all, not just for some.
As we enter the 109th Congress, we will not abandon key values that build a strong and secure middle class: national security, prosperity, community, fairness, accountability and opportunity. On every issue our nation faces, it is our responsibility to ensure that the policies we pursue are consistent with the values we cherish. Learn more about our values.
Yesterday, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid reaffirmed their faith in these important values during their pre-buttal to the State of the Union Address. Leader Pelosi focused on domestic issues during her address and emphasized that social security is meant to ensure that the prospect of retirement is not met with the specter of poverty. At a time when Social Security is under attack, we must not abandon our parents and loved ones. Click here to watch highlights of Leader Pelosi's speech.
