5. They're rightwing Christian fascists
They are wayyyyy out there. I just tuned in shortly before the break. They were gay-bashing based on the Bible, and then said, "But let's make it clear, we aren't angry with the gay people! We LOVE them and want to HELP them!!"

Then they said they wanted to save them from diseases. Larry said, hetero couples get those diseases too. "Yeah but not to the point of killing off the population like the gay people." (Uh, Africa? Hello?)

32. NO. Two were "extremists", two were more moderate.
The show actually demonstrated the divide among radical Christians and much more moderate Christians.

I thought the radicals looked foolish next to the moderates.

It was a sobering show for all Americans to watch.

Very cool.

AND Larry King did confront the "radicals" with their radical views.

I feel very good about that show.

11. It is intresting
I study the Christian Right. A kind of know your enemy thing. I do not really think of them of as enemies. What I have seen so far is giving a good insight into thier tought processes.

I did notive two things, positive things.
One of the people laughed when asked whether Liberals can be good Christians and said "Of course." I think he meant it and I think that is a positive sign that we should not seperate our selves from them. We need to turn them back to the light side of the Force.

The second was the guy who said that Bush DOES ow liberals, he ows all American people. A true sentiment, and one that if it holds true with otehr evangelicals can be used against thier arguments.

... that formaldehyded-owl-in-suspenders is just awful. I haven't watched him in years. My gastro-intestinal tract can't take it.

If there was anything revealing from his show, then it was completely accidental. He doesn't do "revealing", only "obscuring". It's great that you were able to see through the softball crap, but I doubt that: a) it was intentional; b) his usual "sheep" audience will see it.

Ah well, I consider that to be a shame.

Nope, because I have never seen Larry King to be "revealing" (your words) and at this stage in his "career" I really don't expect him to grow a pair to reveal (as disturbing as that image is).

For those Americans who watched it,...I believe the dichotomy will help to wake up those operating under a kind of spell.

Why do you target your comment to Americans and passively exclude non-Americans? Are non-Americans not allowed to watch or comment on Larry King? We do get CNN in Canada, you know. Are non-Americans' opinions less important that yours... {oops, I guess in some circles that's true}.

From their point of view they feel that the Anti-Christ will fool everyone except for the righteous and the "Children of God." They feel that they will be able to tell the Anti-Christ for what he is when he arrives on the scene. The bad part is this -- the Anti-Christ unites the world in a FALSE sense of peace. For example, the prophecies say that the Anti-Christ will demand that those loyal to him have a mark placed upon them, and those that refuse will be unable to trade, to buy goods and services, or receive certain state benefits. Supposedly, this will be a test of the righteous and those who are following the path of the "great Satan." There shall be seven years of peace and then seven years of "trials and tribulations" accompanied by the usual Biblical plagues and famines. The Anti-Christ will seemingly be peace-loving and a uniter, but in reality he will be the total opposite of Christ -- hence, Anti-Christ.

I was raised in various Christian churches, and from what I know of the Bible and its prophecies, Bush fits the bill of an Anti-Christ. There is not only one Anti-Christ that is supposed to come forward though... Bush is deceptive and dangerous because he has managed to convince so many different people of so many contradicting things -- some think he is smart, courageous, and peace-loving; however, those are those that think he is the opposite of all of that. Personally, I don't buy the widely held notion that Bush is an idiot, and I strongly believe it is all an act so that people do "misunderestimate" him and thus they are disarmed and unable to really fight. So many people have jumped on that band wagon, but based on the reading I have done on him I believe it is an act and a damn fine one at that. It is my ardent belief that Bush is a very, very dangerous man. The Anti-Christ? I don't know, but he is definitely a supremely dangerous individual. He's got a ton of smoke-screens up around himself and a lot of people have fallen for them and fail to see through the haze of deceit.

Is it that the anti-Christ is supposed to unite the world in peace but has a more sinister plan up his sleeve, a plan prevented by the rapture?

I agree with you that Bush and his entire regime are extremely dangerous. I'm among those who believe he's truly stupid, though. I think he's the puppet and there is a whole cabal pulling his strings, writing his scripts, feeding him his lines, etc... And those are the people that are evil and brilliant, imo.

I read the Book of Revelation recently to see what all the fuss was about, and in my opinion whoever wrote it was probably goofed on skunkweed at the time. (Actually, apparently it was written in symbolic code to give hope to early Christians who were being persecuted. It's really a stretch to come up with what these wackos come up with.)

I don't understand why some Christians obsess over Revelation and a few other books in the OT and NT, while ignoring most of the text of the New Testament.

I think a lot of Christians are puzzled about how their religion got highjacked by politicians.

58. Here is an online book offering a different view of Revelations...
http://www.ao.net/~fmoeller/revdir.htm

I do not agree with everything he says but it is an interesting read. It takes a historical approach. Meaning most of what is in Revelations is already passed. Most scholars through history used this method. It is only recently that the 7 yr tribulation theory came into play. The 7 yr method serves them better because they BELIEVE they will be gone before the suffering they predict starts.

57. There are several methods used to interpret Revelations...
Edited on Wed Feb-02-05 03:23 AM by mordarlar
There are those that think there will be seven years of hell on earth, after the believers have been raised into heaven.

There are those that believe EVERYTHING prophesied is past.

And then there is the historical method.

In the first one they believe the anti-christ will give the false impression of peace. Gain extreme control and then there will be CHAOS.

By the historical view all historical events post Christ have been enacted already leading us to today. The Bible prophesies in OT Daniel written pre-Christ tell of some things during Daniels lifetime and somethings that closely mirror Revelations.

I am of the belief that organized Christianity is what is commonly referred to as the anti-christ. It says in Rev. that the beast will look like Christ but speak like the Satan. They have been around since the beginning of time. Most of the "plagues" of the Bible can be explained pretty clearly by history. If this is accurate we would be in the last "bowl" Commonly seen to interpret A BIG BOMB. : /

I am really glad they were exposed.

Whereas, the other two evangelicals were far more moderate and inclusive and "secular".

I thought it an excellent show for Americans to see in order to distinguish being the "radicals" and the "moderates". There are way so few Americans who fall into the radical shit (not even 5% of our population). I hope you know that.

47. Even 5% scares me
If 5% of the population are aligned with Beverly and Tim LeHaye, it's scary to me. I worry about this kind of thinking seeping into public consciousness, and the main reason it scares me is that it can't be dealt with through reason. The LeHayes simply cite the Bible as the source of their beliefs, their interpretation is right period, it's black and white and nothing else, and nobody can convince them otherwise. And these are people who want their beliefs imposed through government. All of that, to me, is very frightening.

52. Larry King Was Good tonight
The one woman caller asked why the government should be involved in the control of a woman's body and stated they should not try to legislate morality. Mrs. Lehayne response was simple minded beyond belief. She stated that she could not understand why women would want to kill little babies. She said women could have control of their own body BEFORE they got pregnant.

Mrs. Lehayne and her group, Concerned Women of America, are dangerous to the freedoms of American women. She would love a theocratic right wing Christian government.

Franklin Graham is the one who laughed when he was asked if democrats can be good Christians. His father, Billy Graham, is a self-proclaimed Democrat.

59. Larry King
Also did a great program on Christmas day (or Eve) with a Catholic, a fundy, an Episcopel (sp?), a Rabbi, and an Iman -- no this is not a joke.

I'm not sure if he did this because he thought it was a good theme, informative, or good ratings.

60. I hate remembering
I was raised in this shit. I'm glad the deprogramming took.

I read four of the books they did and they were okay for an interesting fictional read. That's how I took it, but it got boring and I quit.

The thing is, they do really believe it and so does my mother, grandmother and probably half the relatives. It's not a surprise the Christian right is so strong. This kind of stuff is their backbone. They do emails praying for shrub, go to churck, pat each other on the back, pray for each other and the whole nine yards. To me, it's a damn cult.

These are hard nuts to crack.
