what would make iraqi war 'worth it' ?
Over 100,000 innocent iraqies died as a result of our invasion. I wonder was it more or less, approximately, than those that Saddam killed with his police and gasing of kurds. I wonder if anybody actually tried to calculate that. If, say, the projection of how many more innocent people Saddam would kill during his regime, based on his previous conduct, is more than the number innocent people that died during our invasion, than does that make this war worth it? And if it's less, but Iraq does end up as a stable democracy in the next couple of years, does that still make it worth it?

If Kerry was the president right now, who repeatedly stated that Saddam was a threat, we had to depose of him, and Bush just did it the wrong way and fucked everything up; so if when Kerry came to power he would channel resources to iraqies companies and infrastructure instead of american companies, started a phased withdrawal by intensifying training of iraqi forces and concentrating them in area by area as american soldiers leave, true democratic election by encouraging political debate, disseminating information about parties to regular iraqies and making it clear that if they vote for the party that demands that we leave right away we will truly leave without trying to hold on to our bases there and their oil - if he did all he said he would and it was a success, would this war be worth it at the end?

It certainly was an illegal war, technically, but in the big picture there are many military operations going on right now, including France in Ivory Coast, as well as Clinton's bombing of Yugoslavia in the past, that are completely illegal, technically, under international laws, it's just that nobody seems to care much. What use are these international laws if nobody can enforce them? UN needs to start showing some backbone, streamline its decision making process, and stop passing resolutions they know they can't enforce. Conservatives love to point out how useless UN is becoming as justification for getting rid of it, instead we should take it as constructive critizism and work on making it stronger (New World Order as Bush I used to call the UN during first gulf war I believe)

1. The only way I would think the Iraqi war was worth it
would be the impeachment of Bush. View www.icasualties.org.

But you didn't see us attacking Israel for it.

6. good point
it seems like Israel stopped paying attention to the rest of the world a long time ago, they just get money and weapons from us. UN condemns them continuously, it doesn't seem to have any effect, they basically say - why are you yelling at us - do something about palestinians that blow up civilians, as if palestine was a country, or had a leadership or anything. once palestine becomes an actual country, as opposed to a giant concentration camp, then UN can take them to the task as well.

a war that was worth fighting. I am coming up blank. And about the UN-if the conservatives think it is useless, then I think we should try very hard to keep it going. My usual rule of thumb is if the conservatives don't like it, it probably means that it's fine. They detest anything that might actually help people.

7. are you talking to me or kerry
he was the one running on platform that US was justified in taking down saddam, we just did it the wrong way. bush lied (or was criminally incompetent) about WMDs, but I think many people have difficulty distinguishing between being anti-bush and anti-war at this point.

12. I can think of a few.
If the nation of Iraq actually came over to us and attacked us. Seeing as how that was physically impossible for them to do...

It might be worth it later for the oil if Ghawar peaks and starts to rapidly plumet in production though. Sure it would be immoral as all hell, and we can't get the oil infastructure up to spec, but ignoring those that might have made it worth it.

13. This is what the right-wing sham Iraqi "election" is all about...
The election is an attempt to whitewash a major turd, and add something "warm and fuzzy" to an absolutly filthy, unnecessary, illegal invasion. It's not even a goddamned war. * claims he's a "war president," yet he keeps up with the tax-cut talk?????? If we're truly at war, where is the sacrifice by the wealthy and the big corporations for the effort?

This has been a power-and-oil grab, replete with documented torture, all of which has nothing to do with 9/11 or terrorism (although BushCo markets it thus). We've been lied to about the level of threat posed by Saddam, about WMD, about the costs (in terms of human life and in $$$$), about how rosy things are in the Middle East now, on and on. This phony election solves **nothing** about the problems that confront the region and the world.

Does anybody in their right mind actually think that the U.S. is "spreading freedom" by using methods that positively insure that freedom is reduced to nothing?

Nothing -- not a goddamned thing -- would ever make this bullshit war "worth it."

14. The end doesn't justify the means IMO.
It would take undeniable proof that:

1. The war was not purposely conducted under false pretenses.

2. Iraq possessed true weapons of mass destruction and the ability to deliver them to the US before the war.

Short of that, (and that ain't happening) nothing.

Armstrong Williams. I'm kind of broke at the moment.

Even though I hate the war and those that lied us into it, I'd whore myself out. I just never get a call from the administration.

Here's what I'm willing to offer. I'll convert my Anti-Bush/Anti-War website:
http://www.seedsofdoubt.com/distressedamerican/main.htm

I'll make it proudly pro-war and pro-Bush. I got tens of thousands of hits last year. That must be worth something. George?

19. Well.......
If the could prove without a shadow of a doubt that Saddam had been planning on a massive nuclear strike, and actually had the weapons.

Thats the case they tried too make, and failed miserabally. I never believed a word of it from these creeps in power now.

The whole "Saddam was a bad guy" spiel never flew for me either. I mean sure he cracked a few heads. But so few ever stopped to think, maybe he had to bust a few heads to keep the peace. We ourselves are now personally seeing how hard it is to control 3 seperate, and distinct people who do not really care if they are 1 whole country or not.

20. It also is illegal nationally. It violated our constitution...just like
his daddy's invasion of Panama. Completely illegal and immoral and you didn't hear ONE word about it here, but the rest of the world was outraged.

The world IS responding. They are crashing our economy. Very passively but certainly.

if we deposed saddam right after he gassed kurds, or after he invaded kuwait, that would make a lot more sense from a moral standpoint.
