CSPAN - It's OK to call politicians "dry drunk"
At approximately 8AM today, the host allowed an obviously belligerant caller, in asking a question to guest Avidar Cover, to make a slanderous charge of "dry drunk" about Sentator Ted Kennedy.

I have sent a message to the producers asking why this caller was allowed to go on, and to explain:

What is CSPAN's policy on slander?
Would you allow a similar charge of President Bush?

If I get an answer, I will post here.

Meanwhile, during the open phone period coming up at 8:30ET, feel free to get the answer directly.

3. I dunno about calling Bush a "dry drunk"
but there was one lady who called in not too long ago and called him a "mass-murdering retard." So apparently they don't bleep insults from either side.

5. "dry-drunk" is VERY applicable to bush
(as is "mass-murdering retard)

http://www.counterpunch.org/wormer1011.html

"Dry drunk is a slang term used by members and supporters of Alcoholics Anonymous and substance abuse counselors to describe the recovering alcoholic who is no longer drinking, one who is dry, but whose thinking is clouded. Such an individual is said to be dry but not truly sober. Such an individual tends to go to extremes."

<snip>

What is the dry drunk syndrome? "Dry drunk" traits consist of:

-Exaggerated self-importance and pomposity
-Grandiose behavior
-A rigid, judgmental outlook
-Impatience
-Childish behavior
-Irresponsible behavior
-Irrational rationalization
-Projection
-Overreaction

9. ted might have been (be) a heavy drinker....but dry drunk doesn't fit
see my other post with the traits associated with dry-drunks....with possible exception of exaggerated self-importance Kennedy doesn't exhibit them, and besides, show me a politician that doesn't exhibit exaggerated self-importance....

10. No reply received, still holding my breath.
I called a "viewer assistant" and asked if CSPAN replied to all emailed suggestions/comments, and specifically about their slander policy. She was very nice and took my information and promised to send it on the the Journal staff for a reply.
