Dean as DNC chair and '08 prospects.....
Does being DNC chair really give him any kind of leg up in running in '08? Has DNC chair ever been a position as a stepping stone to the presidency? I'm not saying he's not interested but would this really be his best way of going about that?

I'm glad it looks like he's going to win. I didn't support him in the primary for the same reasons many didn't (fear, skittishness, etc.). But I regret that now.

But I keep hearing/reading everyone talking about his DNC chair move as a positioning for '08. I'm tending to see it more as a genuinely sincere move to dramatically influence the direction of the party more than anything else.

Any historical info on such a move?

3. As sad as it makes me, I think this is his best chance to make changes.
With the country becoming more conservative, a Presidential bid would be iffy at best (as it will be in '08 for ANY Dem).

DNC chair will give him a great avenue to make changes.

That said, I think he would make an even better President if a Dem could get elected.

4. Dean has taken on the responsibility of
helping save the party, and with any luck take back the Congress in '06 and make further advances in '08. As far as the Presidency goes, we gots a lot to choose from.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing Gore get his term, or two.

5. He said he won't run.
The party needs a LOT of work before a reformer will be able to be elected president.

6. www.programforprogress.com
Hi. Thought I'd drop by here and shill this:

http://www.programforprogress.com

The media are proclaiming dean the "victor" already - kinda like they did before Iowa, which makes me expect a takedown.

Humbly suggest to Dean people here that they visit P4P and see what we're proposing: Pledging $$ support to DNC IF AND ONLY IF Dean is chair. Otherwise, no $ from us.

Thanks for considering.

7. It is known that Kerry, for example, has always had
presidential ambitions, but maybe what drives Dean first is concern for the Country. I've heard what prompted him to get into the race from the get-go was healthcare. Maybe Dean is seeking the role which best serves his talents--to spearhead opposition against those who do not have the best interests of the Country.
