5. voted yes
I don't necessarily like Bush's plan but I want OUT of this damn system. At leaste give people the option to partially opt out. I'd be happy keeping just half of my payroll taxes and demanding nothing of the system in return when I retire. Give us the choice.

7. I'd like to offer you a full apology.
My father died too young to collect a penny of SS. However, his 3 pre-school children got a bit of money until 18. And his widow collected until she died.

But she didn't live all that many years. So there's plenty left for you.

15. Wow, sorry to hear that, Bridget
Thank God SS was there for your family, even if it wasn't that much.

I don't recall hearing the guaranteed survivor benefits aspect of SS being raised in the public debate yet. It sure should.

19. Thank you Bridget Burke for putting it into words for me.
If it hadn't been for SS I would have not been able to feed and house my five children when I was 29 and widowed. I would have never survived and probably would have lost my kids. There are a lot of people who do not know that SS can be a life line when tragedy strikes. My motto is "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

8. The problem is..
... that you are NEVER out of "the system".

If you managed your retirement poorly (like most Americans) and found yourself eating dog food you'd simply go on welfare which comes basically out of the same pot.

No, we don't want to let you die of starvation when you are old so we need to keep you in this system.

and let the poor and sick fend for their sorry selves. And while we're at it, what's with all this Medicare stuff? Sheesh, if you don't have the money to stay healthy, we don't want you around anyway.

<Sarcasm off>

9. What plan is that?
Stupidhead hasn't released any details of his "plan" and the White House has said that he isn't going to release any details for a while yet. How could someone make an informed decision on being for or against a "plan" that doesn't exist yet?

Standard idiotic poll from MSNBC, now in its third decade of dumbing down American discourse.
