1984 parallels
Forced suppression of sexual desires = abstinence only education

War with Eastasia/Eurasia = War on terror

Changing of records = changing of reasons for war on Iraq

Double think = war is peace, invasion and occupation is liberation, etc.

Thoughtcrime = branding anyone not toting party line as "unpatriotic"

Room 101 = Abu Gharib/Gitmo

Newspeak = the simplicity and narrow range of vocabulary used to tout gov't programs

Government lies about how it has increased literacy rate, living conditions, and economic conditions.

Feel free to add more while it's still allowed.

14. Try asking to turn off Faux News in a restaurant
because you want to enjoy your meal, not regurgitate your previous one onto your current one . . .

5. I'd say the neocons are closer to being the inner party
They're the idealogically pure cult that has seized control. The rest of the GOP has fallen in line behind them.

13. Doug Kellner / Herbert Marcuse
For those who have a lot of spare time, might want to check out Doug Kellner's essay on this very topic (not specific to this administration however) that is an extension of Herbert Marcuse's 60's essay One Dimensional Man.

I should also admit to having not waded through the second part of the essay, but knowing Kellner's work it may be of interest to this crew.

Cheers.
