Missouri GOP lawmakers want limits in injury lawsuits

JEFFERSON CITY — With no Democratic governor to say no this year, Republican lawmakers Monday unveiled legislation to put new limits on medical malpractice lawsuits and other personal injury claims.

Flanked by doctors dressed in white coats, Rep. Richard Byrd, a St. Louis County Democrat and House sponsor of the legislation, said his bill would help reduce medical malpractice premiums that have increased sharply the past several years.

“Hopefully, these changes will bring about dramatic reductions in the premiums that physicians are paying for malpractice (insurance) that are causing them to stop practicing medicine in Missouri,” Byrd said.

The legislation would have a significant effect on how injured Missourians sue individuals and corporations.

And Amendment Three was a slick bit of disinformation now wasn't it. "Put all the fuel tax back into the roads!", neglecting to tell the populace that over half that fuel tax had always been designated for education and social services.

Well, after four years of increasing property taxes, and a Republican government laying waste to the state, maybe the people will wake up. I certainly hope so.

Yep we really fucked up in Nov here in MO. At least my county(Jackson County) went blue for Kerry. Its really amazing, I couldn't believe Blunt who was in the navy then road his Dads name into political office got elected to any office much less Gov.

Having that stupid Gay marriage amendment hurt us in my opinion, brought out all the crazies.

I'm not sure what the message is we are trying to tell I guess most voting Missourians are dumbasses maybe. Maybe we should just blame it on Holden for doing such a poor job. Regardless our new Gov and RW dominated Congress is going to screw us all so hard now we wont be able to walk straight.
