23. Just called Dodd and Lieberman's office -- they have not "issued
a statement" yet. I hope they vote no. But for once I was able to thank Lieberman for something!! He lead a coalition introducing a bipartisan bill to protect the Arctic from oil drilling! Well, its something.

28. She must think it's "safe" to vote against Gonzales.
I've already informed her that she won't be getting any support or a vote from me after her disgraceful IWR vote and her vote for Rice.

Damn, let's hear it for both of Wisconsin's senators. Nice job guys.

I know, I have a Vikings avatar and I live in WI (about 45 miles from Lambaugh field). I grew up in North Dakota, so the Vikes are my "hometown" team of my youth.

54. Why russ does what he does
Russ has always said that he thinks the president should get to pick his own cabinet. That it is a right that goes with winning the election. So, in essence, Russ was making a pretty bold statement by voting against Gonzalas. That and he hates beaners.

17. There's no reason for Salazr to vote yes--even the Hispanic Caucus
doesn't want Gonzales--there's plenty of cover for Slaazar, as all the Dems know. Can it be that Salazar actually condones torture?

24. I guess he's known Gonzales several years. But even so, clearly
the Latino community sees it as an act of exploitation.

http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,36~115~2641697,00.html

<snip>

Nativo Vigil Lopez, president of the Mexican American Political Association, told the Los Angeles Times that the nomination of Gonzales is a cynical ploy to exploit the Latino community.

"There is no doubt in my mind that the ethnic card is being played here, and actually to the detriment, in my mind, of the Latino community," he said.

But Salazar stands firm, saying there's a big difference between being counsel to the president and U.S. attorney general. "My hope is that he will exercise that kind of independence," Salazar said.

In the senator's mind, supporting Gonzales is clearly an act of independence and political courage.

But it will take real guts to withdraw that support now if Gonzales doesn't deserve it.

46. McCain would redeem himself a little by voting no
...given some of his more obvious sell outs and fuck-ups since the Florida coup. And if the one Senator with first-hand experience with torture can't vote against this vile shitbag, that would be very sad for the country.
