Was Rice blacklisted from Yushchenko inaugural?
Edited on Wed Feb-02-05 05:37 PM by katinmn
Deroy Murdock, writing for the National Review online, says Rice was unable to attend the swearing in of the Ukriane president because Dayton called her a liar. If this is true (consider the source), more kudos to you, Senator Dayton! :loveya:

February 02, 2005, 2:20 p.m.

exerpt from Murdock's article:
I really don't like being lied to repeatedly, flagrantly, intentionally," Senator Mark Dayton (D., Minnesota) told his colleagues. "It's wrong. It's undemocratic, it's un-American, and it's dangerous."

Rice eventually was confirmed January 26, 85 to 13. That baker's dozen of "No" votes were the most cast against a secretary of state nominee since 14 senators spurned Henry Clay in 1825.

This Democratic obstructionism directly weakened U.S. diplomacy. Rice could not attend the inauguration of Ukraine's new, pro-American president, Viktor Yushchenko.

"I think it's unfortunate that she missed the opportunity to go to the Ukraine as secretary of state," Senator Lindsay Graham (R., S.C.) told Fox News Sunday January 23. "That's the down side of what's going on."

1. I'd say this is B.S. Trying to make Democratic senators responsible
for Condi's OWN failings.

2. oh, I agree. But at the same time they usurp some power in
doing so.

The whole world knows that some U.S. senators and many Americans consider Rice a liar. * does not have a mandate.

8. Interesting article. IMO Putin and * are cut from the same bolt of cloth
A new cold war would serve each quite well.

Keep people in fear. Maintain absolute power.

7. I think hes saying she couldn't go because she wasn't actually rubber
stamped as Sec of State yet - but he's trying to make it look like she didn't get invited to the inguaral because some honest partisan Democrat called her a liar.

Edited on Fri Feb-04-05 03:19 AM by RapidCreek
what's your point?

She is,of course, a liar and pretty much everyone know that...why should a Democrat or a Republican or any red blooded American want to have a liar representing our country to the world?

I sure as hell wouldn't. The more countrys that sniveling, morally bankrupt, Un-American leach gets turned away from, the better....and any man or woman who endeavors to bring such an end about is a True Blue Patriotic American Hero.

Perhaps the Democrats should take him at his word...if a simple statement of fact, uttered by a single Democratic politician, is enough to bring about such a major upheaval in the world order...what might happen if four or five additional Democrats engaged in such radical departures from the norm????? :)

Oh my WORRRRRRD!!!

RC

As an African American, I really cannot express my utter disdain for African American conservatives, such as he. They would just as soon see the rest of us, back in chains, if it meant a place at the table for themselves.

10. opportunists think only for themselves.
we've always had them and always will.

In some ways I pitty people like Gonzales and Delroy and neocon women who work against the interests of all women because they are being used and when they aren't needed anymore....

11. It appears that they are complaining about delay in confirmation
The article seems to state taht it was the delay in getting Condi confirmed is the reason that she did not attend swearing in and not that she was blacklisted.

I believe that Condi is going to be a horrible Sec of State. Who is going to believe anything that she says. The debate during her confirmation established that she is a liar.

12. Good ole Dayton
Kudos Sen. Dayton! He needs to speak out even more. I remember not too long ago a front page article in the St Paul paper said the GOP viewed Dayton's seat as ripe for the taking. I certainly hope not! I will not live in a red state! I'll certainly be voting for him, and hopefully be able to chip in some time or money to help his campaign when the time comes. I wonder who they're going to run against him... wouldn't be too surprised if it's Pawlenty.

The word on MPR this a.m. was that Dayton was slipping and Pawlenty was doing real well in "local polls". Hmm. Well, that's IT for me and so-called "public radio" I guess.
