The word game "privatization"
Do you think this word has become soiled goods. I start to see some of the republicans trying to replace it with personalization. "Personalize social security"

Sounds much more harmless.

They will always win the word game when they've got the press to parrot it over and over.

1. Extremely soiled
Every Republican in the country has been told to NEVER say "privatization." It is a deadly word and ever since the memo came down from headquarters, Republican have been using other words - "private accounts" (that one was recently put on the banned list), "personal accounts," "personalization" - to describe their plan, because it always turns out that the old words turned people against the GOP's plan.

Maybe someday they'll realize that it is the plan, not the word, that people are really against.

Maybe.

3. Aside: nobody is going to manage your money better than a public pension
in a state run by Democrats.

Privatizing social security even IRAs are just ways to generate fees for private companies while halving your returns.

Two important aspects of public pensions:

(1) Economies of scale. CALPERS, for example, costs 18 cents for every 100 dollars invested to run. A 401(k) costs something like $2.35 per 100 to manage. That difference is a big reason the government wants more 401(k)s and more "private" or "personalized" accounths.

(2) You, as a private individual, will never be as good at investing as a professional who sits in front of a computer screen digesting information and acting immediately on market fluctuations. What happesn when you're on vacation or at the supermarket when the market crashes or some reallly bad news comes out about your stock? This is why CALPERS manages something like 11% returns on investment while 401(k)s average something like 4-6%.
