1. yes
I've gotten calls quite often.

During the campaign season, I'll answer the phone even if the caller ID is funky looking, because that's often a pollster.

BTW, this is yet another reason that polls are wildly inaccurate. Most people have caller ID now, and won't answer the phone if they don't recognise the number.

3. Yep
before the presidential election of 2004. They checked to see if I knew who my local pols were and asked who I'd vote for and why.

4. Coupla times a year...
maybe more if there's a hot campaign going on.

But, I'm a wierd demographic-- middle-aged white guy in a largely Hispanic neighborhood where a lot of the residents aren't citizens.

Considering that even national polls only call a couple of thousand people at most, odds of getting a poller calling are slimmer than getting a winning lottery ticket. This is particularly true if one lives in a largely homogenous area.

5. Once in 1988, once in 2004
It was spring last year and focused on my congressional race (IL-8), which turned out to be one of the few races where an incumbent (longest serving Republican in the House mind you) was defeated.

6. Sure, but never by one of the huge companies...
Always informal, by professors and the like... now that I think about it, that's not polling at all! My mistake...

We've both been called upon to take part in numerous polls and opinion surveys--mostly online through Knowledge Networks.

12. No. Gallup callled...
... a few weeks ago (their name was on the caller ID) so I answered, hoping to be able to vent my perspective.

They did a survey about yellow pages. It was excruciating. Never again.

15. Several times
Sometimes lengthy polls, sometimes brief. I believe calls have come from the right, the left, and more or less independent studies.
