WASHINGTON — There's no blue tarp on the roof, but they call it a double-wide and it's the office of Florida's junior senator, Mel Martinez.
"I feel like I'm very much in touch with a lot of my constituents: A lot of them live in mobile homes," said Martinez, a Republican who served as federal housing secretary for three years.

About 20 staff members are crammed into the back office. Cubicles are the size of a desk and chair. Some staffers don't even have cubicles. he lack of space has kept Martinez from filling about a dozen positions on his Capitol staff.
The walls are barely insulated. During bitterly cold recent days, staffers wore their winter coats in the office. The thermostat was in the adjoining office of Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska.
"There were some thermostat issues," Martinez joked, noting that conflict was unavoidable when Alaskans controlled the heat for a Floridian's office.
