This was, perhaps, Bush's best "performance" as President, his best delivery, best content of speech since he was placed in office.
But it doesn't matter. A deception-weary, war-weary, economically-debt-ridden public seems to not give a damn save for the few rabid neocons and corporate pigs. You would have expected follow-up drooling by most of the pundits (there was a little) and you would have expected bold headlines about how Bush socked it to the Dems and how "sorry" the Dem response was given what they had to work with and who they had that could have delivered their response so much more effectively.
Let this be a lesson to the "children" of all stripes. Lying is a terrible thing. Telling lies that cost human life and misery is unforgivable and unforgettable. Hiding the bodies of fallen soldiers doesn't mean we don't see them. Telling bold lies and repeating them forcibly doesn't mean we believe them. Pretending to be best, most powerful President in American history doesn't mean you are.
