Repub transparent strategy - appoint minorities that are right wingers

Clarence Thomas, Gonzales, Rice and I'm sure there are more. They think this action will dig into these traditionally democratic voters for elections. Then when and if Dems oppose, they play the race card.

Tokenism allows them to avoid doing anything really meaningful to create equality. They hold up the "token" as *proof* that they are not racist.

It's kind of like when someone says, "I'm not racist, I have a black friend. ":eyes:

5. Republicans can't elect minorities so

they appoint them instead. There are exceptions like J.C. Watts, Ben Campbell and Bobby Jindall (sp?), but, for the most part no minority group will vote Republican in large numbers. I have no idea how that Jindall guy got elected in LA. My wingnut relatives there are very racist and anti-semitic and xenophobic. I suppose their hatred of gays and abortion overrode their xenophobia.

edit: My wingnut relatives are not especially wealthy, my sister-in-law was just widowed, her husband was a union man, and their daughter had government paid maternity care and the son just had a kid out of wedlock with one woman while still married to another woman (with whom he also has a child.) They regulary use the N word and talk about their hatred of the possibility of gay marriage. When brother-in-law died, they did not mention his gay son in the obituary or invite him to the funeral or bother to mention to the Catholoic deacon, who performed the service, that he even existed. SICK, SICK, SICK. Republican family values? You tell me.

They are appointing minorities to high positions as a cover for the fact that their policies are NOT minority friendly.

Appointing minorities to high positions does open the door, thus has some good effects long term but I agree, it places any Democrat opposers in a precarious position, opening them up to criticicism for not supporting a minority friendly effort. How convenient for the Repukes.

Democrats need to continue to oppose actions/policies that are not in our best interest regardless of the race of who is supporting such policies while pointing out how anti-minority the Repuke party really is.

We'll get beyond this one but it is a sneaky, devious strategy. Rove must of have thought this one up.

Powell, Rice, and Gonzales are Bush insiders. The Bushes aren't into the visceral racism of the KKK types. If you share their "values" and their ideals and are usefull to them, there is no racial or sexual glass ceiling.
