An e-mail from my buddy Ken Mehlman, RNC Chairman ( Social Security)
The GOP is launching a new web-site, ala Move-on, devoted to "educating" the public on the beauty of Bush's Social Security piratization plan. The site provides for e-mailing the pro-privatization message to US senators.

There is even a separate message that can be e-mailed to the "Democrat Senators," i.e., the evil people who oppose "saving" Social Security. All the Democrats are about, according to the e-mail, is "pessimism and negativity while presenting no plan or vision for preserving Social Security."

And just WHY did I get this e-mail?!? I send the RNC $3.00 every year and sign up to receive their info. I like to know at least some of what the Repub's are up to. Those people are organized! I get lots of cool stuff in the mail that I KNOW must cost them more than $3.00 to send out. I've gotten big photo portraits of the first family, for example, that I had my children color and "enhance" and they're taped to our refrigerator. Great conversation starter. It's one of my better political/entertainment investments.

Dear _________,

President Bush is committed to keeping the promise of Social Security for today's seniors while strengthening Social Security for our children. In his State of the Union speech speech {sic}the President discussed his plan to save Social Security for younger workers by allowing them the choice to set aside portions of their salary in personal accounts so they can start creating their own nest egg for retirement. The Social Security benefits for those at or near retirement will not change.

Unless we act now, Social Security will be bankrupt by the time our children retire.

To help educate the public about the President's plan, the RNC this week launched a new Web site: www.preservingsocialsecurity.com. This Web site will provide up-to-date news, facts and ways for people to get involved in the debate.

Get involved now! Go to www.preservingsocialsecurity.com and sign an online petition asking your Senators to work with President Bush to preserve Social Security.

With your help we will preserve Social Security and make sure it is around for our children and grandchildren.

Sincerely,

Ken Mehlman
RNC Chairman

4. It's the GOP web-site that refers to "Democrat Senators"
I guess it's an attempt to unlink "Democratic" Party from "democracy" and "democratic" with a small "d".

This is the title and first paragraph of the e-mail petition that visitors to the site are asked to sign.

Petition To Democrat Senators:

“President Bush is looking to work with Democrats in confronting the challenges facing our nation, but some Democrats in Congress are looking to obstruct the President's bold second term agenda in an effort to score partisan political points even at the cost of accomplishing the business of the American people.

I like how opposition to the Bush plan can ONLY be inspired by Dem obstructionism and self-interested partisan politics.
