1. Fowler starts by saying we need to change the party
Discusses the process of the vote.

Fowler likes Dean, calls himself a "fan." He needs to be part of the party, etc. Fowler says Democrats don't have luxury of left/right democrats any longer. We need 50%+1, it's that simple...

Fowler talks, as Brazille did, about "aristocracy of consultants" who have forgotten that American voters don't read the WashPost and watch MTP Sunday mornings and are in church or sleeping through church instead.

2. Montana gov. is a symbol of possibilities
as is Salazar (huh?). The national party needs to learn their lessons. (OK, I had been indifferent toward Fowler until now. No longer. He sounds SO centrist).

Says we need to talk about core values more. Need a better delivery system.

Katherine asks pointed question about all of this. She says AAR is more about progressives and liberals than just democrats....Fowler is talking about how good it is that women vote, that liberals worked for civil rights, for unions, etc. These are bold stands on his part!

3. I liked Al's subtle little dig
He said "I'm not so big on that women voting. I go back and forth."

Hee.

4. Now "sensible" gun stuff
Rural voters think we're nuts but we should try to stop machine guns! (Ya think?). Talks about Kerry and CLark briefly. And thank God that was all.

5. I don't know anything about Fowler
But he didn't portray himself as the one that can give the Democratic Party the backbone it needs.

6. YOu're right about that
I had no feeling one way or another about him, as I said, but his performance was not very effective.

8. How do you do that in a radio interview?
I agree with his message and have been saying similar things for years. Whether or not he could pull it off is another matter. He was instrumental in carrying MI for Kerry, a place not too different from Ohio. Frankly, either Fowler or Dean would be a huge improvement. (I will acknowledge that McAulliff kicked ass with fund raising and that is a big deal.) My concern with the doc is that he brings political baggage with him and he is from the North East. I really believe we need to deemphisize the influence of New England and NYC intellectuals who do not seem to have any idea of how the rest of the country thinks.
