Maybe some weren't! After all, Gonzalez and Ashcroft at least tacitly agreed that for torture to rise to a threshold proscribed by 18 U.S.C. 2340 - it must "be equivalent in intensity to the pain accompanying serious physical injury, such as organ failure, impairment of bodily function, even death."
So maybe the food, drink, sleep deprivation, rape and other atrocities some jews endured at Bergen-Belsen, Auschwitz, Treblinka and elsewhere doesn't rise to the level of torture.
I really have a tough time countenancing this. Such logic really brings us to the level of insanity previously unknown in the United States. May God help us all because after the next attack - no one else will. And I really don't blame them.
