The worst voting records of 2005 in the Senate
http://patrickhenrythinktank.org/sen-scores.html

Outside of the Republicans, who all have terrible records, these Democrats got as low of scores for 2005 as the worst of the Republicans

Lieberman
Ben Nelson
Bill Nelson
Pryor
Salazar

Landrieu and Inouye are pretty bad too.

The Republican with the highest record is Burns who's missed all the major votes. Every vote the Republicans have voted has been extreme.

1. With a "Dmocrat" like Bill Nelson here, we don't even need Jeb (n/t)

3. Once again misleading, Dan Inouye is one of the greatest men in the Senate
Edited on Thu Feb-03-05 11:56 PM by Hippo_Tron
It's unfortunate that people are judging him based on a few votes on cabinet appointments.

6. Well he's started 2005 as one of the worst men in the Senate.

He needs to improve. Though before you make up your mind, see "Cover-Up: Behind the Iran Contra Affair." He looks really bad in the documentary.

4. Great idea, but needs more data to get the true picture of our
Congress. There aren't enough voting events to really get a good idea of where the Democrats are. It does show that the Republicans have circled the wagons around their fearless leader and will vote in lockstep on ever issue, irregardless of whether it's good for the country or not.

Sad really, they've surrendered their conscience to cover their naked emporer.

5. It's one month into the year. I bet by the end of the year
the picture of where each stands will be very clear.

7. I agree.....is this your site?
It would be interesting to publish this as an excel spreadsheet....it would be good to code the columns by Bill# and/or type of legislation rather than date, so as to make it more meaningful for analysis. But I really like the idea of tracking (and forecasting votes of our Senators and Reps)....we really need to make vote accountability a big issue going forward. To do this we need good data that can be sliced and diced.

9. Good calls!
"as the worst of the Republicans" don't you mean the worst of the Democrats?

Evan Bayh has a bad rating from NARAL and ACLU.

votesmart has a good overview of voting records too.

11. There have been only 3 votes in the Senate so far [edited]

Really not enough to properly judge voting records for 2005 yet.

ON EDIT: Also, how the heck is missing a vote worth almost as much as a "NO" vote? When I score votes I always count absence or abstention as +/- 0.

And including Unanimous Consent agreements in a vote tally is simply ludicrous, especially given that the only effect a filibuster would have had would have been to postpone the vote a few days so cloture could have been invoked.

In summary: Good idea, rotten methodology.
