Anybody got a scorecard ?

I'm trying to figure out which Democrats we need to defeat in 2006 and going forward. As I recollect, Feingold needs to be defeated because he voted to confirm Rice, on the otherhand some have given him a reprieve because he voted for against Gonzales. Likewise Obama.

I'm getting confused. Freepers seem to be clear on this, i.e., defeat them all, DUers are a bit vague on which Democrats need to be purged for the good of the party.

But today I think that it's (at least) those Senators who voted for Gonzales.

The other day I believe that it was (at least) those Senators who voted for Rice.

Before that it looked like it was everybody but Boxer... and maybe her too.

I expect that in a few days there will be a new list.

Now, if any of our own votes for SS privatization, then they will go on my own list. -- But I plan on keeping that list to myself until it gets a little closer to primary time.

2. Boxer is a special case

All I know is what I read on DU, and it looks like she would be the overwhelming choice of the American people for president in 2008. Secretly, this is Karl Rove's greatest fear.

Then again, generally what people will know (and perhaps think) of us here (at DU) is based solely on what they read here. And considering how quickly people tend to make the easy generalization -- and the extent of the propaganda that is being hammered into them in the course of their lives -- this could even effect their view of the Party (and not in a necessarily good way).

4. It is a hard list to come up with

As time goes by and things get more and more ugly things will get really interesting.The only thing that scares me is that people get real cranky when they get hungry.

Why not focus on defeating Republicans for a change. This discussion of purges is idiotic. Purges are meaningless when a party is powerless. When Stalin carried out purges, he had power. The Democrats don't. Why not focus your energies in a positive direction and find local progressive candidates you want to support rather than so assiduously plotting the destruction of the Democratic party? Promote progressive policies rather than the politics of hatred and division. It not only contributes nothing, it demonstrates a poverty of imagination and ideas.

You are aware that he was the only NO vote in the Senate on the Patriot Act? Defeating him would be absolutely moronic.

But other DUers did, because he voted to approve Rice. But then when he voted against Gonzales, he seemed to get back in many DUers good graces. Seems odd to me. Fickle I guess.

9. Look at the Senate website for a record of votes

Your "scorecard" is public record. All roll call votes are published on the Senate and House websites. If you hold one vote against a Senator over a long career, particularly a cabinet appointee, you deserve to be represented by a the bad government you have pledged to work so diligently to create.

11. I believe we all need to watch ALL the votes of ALL the senators

regardless of party affiliation. One of my senators, Mark Dayton, caught the ire of a lot of Minnesotans recently when he did not back Barbara Boxer in disputing the electoral college votes but has more than redeemed himself in his votes against both Condisleaza Rice and Alberto "I never met a prisoner I didn't want to torture" Gonzales. We all need to keep an eye on all of Congress, as well as continuing to work on the grassroots level in getting progressives elected to all levels of government. It is very hard work, perhaps even harder than being a Bu$h* pResident, but I believe we WILL take this country back!
