NY Times KILLED story about Bush being WIRED during debate!
http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=2012

Does anyone need ANY additional proof that the mainstream media has aided and abetted BushCo. at every turn? They are as much responsible for this outlaw regime as anyone. The Dems need to start making the decision makers pay for their complicity by calling them out as liars, whores and stooges!

1. We have the freedom to say whatever we want in this country
Not everyone is free to hear what you say, though.

Old Smothers Brothers joke, I think.

Still all too relevant.

27. The point of my post was not defending Bush
Edited on Fri Feb-04-05 03:44 PM by deutsey
I was commenting on the fact that we aren't free in this country to HEAR things that those in control don't want us to hear.

The Smothers Brothers were saying this with an ironic, comedic twist: we may have the constitutionally guaranteed freedom of speech (supposedly) but no where in the constitution does it say we have the freedom to hear.

2. well, this makes me want to tear my hair out
Jeffrey Klein, a founding editor of Mother Jones magazine, told Mother Jones (online edition, 10/30/04) he had called a number of contacts at leading news organizations across the country, and was told that unless the Kerry campaign raised the issue, they couldn’t pursue it.

WTF!?!?!?!

DO DEMOCRATS EVEN WANT TO WIN ANYMORE?

59. Here is a link re: how credible this story is....
http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=2012

The person who analyzed the photos is a 30 year Veteran of JPL who works on photo imaging for NASA and is part of a photo enhancement team for the Cassini Saturn space probe. Not a nut or a crackpot, and he's got a good email trail too.

<snip>
The Bulgegate story originated when a number of alert viewers of the first presidential debate noticed a peculiar rectangular bulge on the back of Bush’s jacket. That they got to see that portion of his anatomy at all was an accident; the Bush campaign had specifically, and inexplicably, demanded that the Presidential Debate Commission bar pool TV cameras from taking rear shots of the candidates during any debates. Fox TV, the first pool camera for debate one, ignored the rule and put two cameras behind the candidates to provide establishing shots.

Photos depicting the bulge and speculating on just what it might be (a medical device, a radio receiver?) began circulating widely around the Internet, and several special blog sites were established to discuss them. The suspicion that Bush had been getting cues or answers in his ear was bolstered by his strange behavior in that first debate, which included several uncomfortably long pauses before and during his answers. On one occasion, he burst out angrily with "Now let me finish!" at a time when nobody was interrupting him and his warning light was not flashing. Images of visibly bulging backs from earlier Bush appearances began circulating, along with reports of prior incidents that suggested Bush might have been receiving hidden cues (London Guardian, 10/8/04).

Finally, on October 8, this reporter ran an investigative report about the bulge in the online magazine Salon, following up with a second report (10/13/04)—an interview with an executive of a firm that makes wireless cueing devices that link to hidden earpieces—that suggested that Bush was likely to have been improperly receiving secret help during the debates.

At that point, Dr. Robert M. Nelson, a 30-year Jet Propulsion Laboratory veteran who works on photo imaging for NASA’s various space probes and currently is part of a photo enhancement team for the Cassini Saturn space probe, entered the picture. Nelson recounts that after seeing the Salon story on the bulge, professional curiosity prompted him to apply his skills at photo enhancement to a digital image he took from a videotape of the first debate. He says that when he saw the results of his efforts, which clearly revealed a significant T-shaped object in the middle of Bush’s back and a wire running up and over his shoulder, he realized it was an important story.

the pictures would have been on cable News, every fron't page, and leading every network broadcast in the world for three days.

The damage would have been done before the whores could run to Chimp's defense.

8. The one thing that makes me skeptical about the wired for sound story
Bush has access to incredible resources both within the government, and from his fabulously wealthy friends.

Are you going to tell me he couldn't have found a way to put a radio in his ear that wouldn't leave a big bulge in his jacket?

Come on, Peter Popoff can do better than this.

Otherwise, I would believe this story 100%

As it stands, I personally give it 50/50 odds.

14. I agree that it would seem they would do a good job, BUT
the main guy that analyzed the footage is not just any Joe Schmo out in the blogosphere. This guy is perhaps one the most renowned photo specialists living today. His willingness to put his credibility on the line is enough for me. I think too that history proves conclusively that being wealthy, powerful and smart does not inoculate one from making stupid mistakes.

19. True, but that's still an argument from authority.
Without the testimony from that expert though, I would have given odds 60/40 against.

His analysis boosts it up to 50% in my mind.

I imagine that if we find out this story is true, we'll see that it was a last-minute act of desperation.

I can see George and Karl alone in the bathroom with a roll of ducktape trying to figure out how to get him wired an hour or two before the debate.

"Damn it, Karl. I can't remember all this stuff. It's hard. It's hard work. And if I take another Valium, I'll just piss my pants."

10. Woodward certainly comes off looking impressive.
http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=2012

<edit>

While the New York Times seems to have been the only newspaper to write an investigative story on the Bush bulge and then kill it, it was not the only paper to duck the story about the bulge and its dramatic confirmation and delineation by Nelson. In addition to the L. A. Times and the two local papers that showed no interest, Nelson says that the same day he learned that his story had been killed at the Times, October 28, he received a phone call from Washington Post assistant managing editor Bob Woodward, famous for his investigative reports on Watergate. "Woodward said he’d heard the Times had killed the story and asked me if I could send the photos to him," says Nelson.

The JPL scientist did so immediately, via email, noting that he had also been in touch with Salon magazine. He says Woodward then sent his photographs over to a photo analyst at the paper to check them for authenticity, which Nelson says was confirmed.

A day later, realizing time was getting short, Nelson called Woodward back. Recalls Nelson: "He told me, 'Look, I’m going to have to go through a lot of hoops to get this story published. You’re already talking to Salon. Why don’t you work with them?'" (Several emails to Woodward asking him about Nelson's account have gone unanswered.)

Heh. I guess they are everywhere. And apparently Bush is a 33rd level mason. Maybe NYT is run by masons. I love a good Masonic conspiracy. lol.

While I wish they had run the story, I can understand why they were hesitant after what happened to CBS. Bush and co would have just said the photos were doctored. It could have backfired and worked against Kerry if people didn't buy it. Even though we now know in hindsight it couldn't have hurt, they didn't know that then. . .

34. Thank you Team Kerry! Actually, you sort of suck.
Compare and contrast: Minutes after the debate, before the bulge was even noticed, the bush campaign was trying their asses off to get the media to report that Kerry cheated by sneaking in notes--and they used their classic mechanism: Bloggers, Drudge, Talk radio, Faux, and the right wing rags.

Of course it took everyone without cataracts 11 seconds to figure out Kerry had a pen.

Cut to Kerry headquartes a couple weeks later: The internet is abuzz with photographic PROOF that can make chimp look like the joke he is. Chimp has not yet been forced to comment, and the whores are either ignoring it or making fun of it. Team Kerry gets word that the NY times is working on this.

"HIIIIIEEEEEEEEYAAAAYAAAAAAAA!! It's judo chess time! We will fight! Oh deary me! Oh deary me!! Fight? Ok we won't."

Meanwhile the adults at the RNC and the white house are figuring out how to kill the talk, and even score some points agains dems. And so they do.

This story is even more depressing than the swift boat response stories that cam out of the kerry camp.

And just think folks: The people who handled the swift boat story and this story are running the message operation for the party. Quick, send them some money to spend!

68. Did you really read the article or just look at the pictures?
