Dear Mike,

Almost 5 years ago you did a piece on "The Awful Truth" that was classic, you got Alan Keyes, then a candidate in the Republican primary for president to hop in your mobile Mosh pit that you were rolling around in Iowa. Do you remember who's voice ultimately convinced Mr. Keyes into finally hopping into your mosh pit, a stunt that undoubtedly generated great publicity for your show? It was his then teenage daughter Maya.

Maya is in college now, and has recently publically come out the closet about her sexuality. Her parents have decided to commit the unchristian act of casting their daughter out into the streets, with no shelter, and no support. I urge you Michael to please look into seeing how you might be able to help out Maya in providing whatever she needs to complete her education.

If there's anyone who's heart is big enough to help that sweet little girl 5 years ago who helped Michael Moore become the talk of the town in the 2000 Iowa primary, its you Mike.

Apparently she wants us all to be aware of self injury - a common symptom of Borderline Personality Disorder, a common mental illness associated with childhood sexual abuse. Perhaps Im making a jump here, but I think Alan Keyes is creepy enough to raise a daughter mentally ill enoough to have a problem with self injury.

and their patrons in the White House would like to do to all gays and lesbians . . . just get rid of us . . . in Keyes's case (if true), that means throwing your gay daughter out of the house . . . I shudder to think what it could mean at the macro level, i.e. in the societal context . . . if they succeed in demonizing us sufficiently, what kinds of actions would they sanction to get rid of the lot of us? . . . revoking all non-discrimination laws? . . . increasing restrictions and prohibitions (e.g. gays can't adopt, gays can't marry -- how about gays can't buy inusurance? or gays can't get professional licenses of any kind?) . . . or would they shoot the moon and establish gay detention facilities (otherwise known as concentration camps)? . . .

political and cultural winds blow ill for gays and lesbians these days, and with increasing velicity . . . each day we hear of yet another action taken to further diminish us as citizens and as persons . . . gays can't marry, gays can't adopt, gays can't hold a conference here, gays can't march in this parade, gay families can't be mentioned in schools . . . not much of a stretch to gays can't be teachers, gays can't be licensed as doctors, gays can't vote . . . all of which, when added together, eventually come to mean that gays can't exist . . .

Alan Keyes is one of the uneducatable people on homosexuality. He has a gay daughter...a gay family member...and this. Nothing learned. Not even the evidence of a gay person in his own family doesn't change a damn thing. He'll be a disgusting homophobic bigot until the very day he dies.

I just feel for his daughter. I had read that she was gay. It's sad and heartbreaking what she's going through.
