Has Jerry Falwell Given The OK For Paul McCartney To Play?

"Christianity will go. It will vanish and shrink. I needn't argue with that; I'm right and I will be proved right. We're more popular than Jesus now; I don't know which will go first - rock 'n' roll or Christianity. Jesus was all right but his disciples were thick and ordinary. It's them twisting it that ruins it for me."

March 4, 1966

FOX is boasting that their SuperBowl half-time show will promote family values. Conservative pundits are talking about how this year's show will be "safe." Are these the same people who 40 years ago were stomping on Beatles albums and calling for a boycott?

As Keith Olbermann said the other night, I guess we won't be hearing "Hi, Hi, Hi."

1. Uhm, that's a Lennon quote.
Hardly applies to McCartney...

3. But McCartney ASSOCIATED with Lennon
Besides, do these people know that McCartney promotes vegetarianism, environmentalism, and peace? That he admitted to using LSD and was arrested in Japan for possession of marijuana?

Those don't sound like right-wing family values to me.

Only one day to the big game and still no outcry from the Christian Right. Perhaps they're still in their "Sponge Bob Is Gay" mode.

2. What John Lennon said makes alot of sense
Much of Christianity (both today and in ancient times) is NOT what Jesus taught.

4. Yep. Lennon was a badass.
If you thought shit went down then, I can't imagine if he said it now.

Peoples' heads would literally explode live on TV.

6. Guess they haven't unearthed the White Album poster
with a picture of McCartney standing up from the toilet and wiping his butt.

(Must have been a wardrobe -- um, bathrobe -- malfunction.)

9. I remember the morons
stomping on their Beatle albums.

Lennon was forced to publically apologize for stating his opinion, though he thought the whole controversy was bs.

As for McCartney, I'm sure Sir Paul won't be mooning the crowd. Still I'd love for him to sing Lennon's "Nowhere Man" and dedicate it to the chimp.

15. It was very half-hearted, true.
Still, at the time the pressure he was under was tremendous. If he was with us today I have no doubt he'd be an unapologetic and vociferous critic of the monkey in the WH.

Edited on Sun Feb-06-05 06:14 AM by napkinz

whatever he had planned on singing he should switch at the last minute

It would make Olbermann's day ..........

Well, When I Met You At The Station
You Were Standing With A Bootleg In Your Hand.
I Took You Back To My Little Place
For A Taste Of A Multicoloured Band.
We're Gonna Get Hi Hi Hi,
The Night Is Young.
She'll Be My Funky Little Mama,
Gonna Rock It And We've Only Just Begun.

We're Gonna Get Hi Hi Hi
With The Music On.
Won't Say Bye-Bye Bye-Bye Bye-Bye Bye-Bye
'Til The Night Is Gone.
I'm Gonna Do It To You, Gonna Do It,
Sweet Banana, You'll Never Give Up.
We're Gettin' Hi Hi Hi In The Midday Sun.

Well Well, Take Off Your Face,
Recover From The Trip You've Been On.
I Want To Lie On The Bed,
Get You Ready For My Polygon.
I'm Gonna Do It To You, Gonna Do It,
Sweet Banana, You've Never Been Done.
Yes, I Go Like A Rabbit, Gonna Grab It,
Gonna Do It 'Til The Night Is Done.

We're Gonna Get Hi Hi Hi With The Music On.
Won't Say Bye-Bye Bye-Bye Bye-Bye Bye-Bye
'Til The Night Is Gone.
I'm Gonna Do It To You, Gonna Do It,
Sweet Banana, You'll Never Give Up.
We're Gonna Get Hi Hi Hi, We're Gonna Get Hi Hi Hi,
We're Gonna Get Hi Hi Hi In The Midday Sun.

10. The Beatles caused the disintegration of mankind
Edited on Sat Feb-05-05 10:15 AM by napkinz

The Rock revolution happened in the Sixties (6, number of the Beast). It came from Liverpool, which was the port base to the Titanic, destroyed by God because of the arrogant insult of Captain Smith (also from Liverpool): "Not even God can sink my ship" (not only the Captain, but also the rest of the crew and even the orchestra playing at the Titanic were from Liverpool). The Rock revolution came from the nation that allows a church to be changed to a pub or to a dance hall or to a recording studio full of drug addicts, homosexuals and lunatics (as that of George Martin, ally of the Beatles).
It came from the nation whose king Enrique VIII adulterated the Bible so that divorce could be allowed, and in this way be able to give loose rein to the many divorces from his wives and subsequent murdering of the same ones, and to whom God provided a wife with six fingers as abomination (Anne Boleyn)...once again 6, number of the Beast....
