Dems should demand a rollback of tax breaks to the wealthiest

and not focus on objecting to make them permanent.

They should show Americans how the tax breaks for the wealthy drove up the deficit and increased fees like property taxes, and how * will reduce aid to farmers and college students, and reduce Medicaid in order to give that money to the corporate welfare recipients.

End corporate welfare. Demand a progressive tax system.

The way I see it is this: Bush came in office in 2001 and inherited a budget surplus. Instead of securing social security, he gave the rich a huge tax cut. Then there was the war. Even without the war he and his Congress quickly created a budget deficit, spending all the SS surplus that was coming in year after year like it was his to spend. In return he gave us more "unfunded liabilities" or in other words IOU's that will never be paid.

We should demand that either the tax cuts not be made permanent with those monies securing SS, or that we remove the cap on payment into SS. I would prefer both myself.

which is really the heart of the problem with those wimpy assed Blue Dog Democrats in Congress. It's why they keep rolling over and playing dead every time Asshole wants to attack working people some more.

5. I know the corporate Dems won't vote against their own interest

but what about Kucinich and other progressives in the legislature?

Perhaps this is another effort that the people will have to lead.

Maybe we can shame the elected officials into tax reform.

You know, there are so many things f****ed up in this country that it requires more energy and attention than we can possibly muster to fight it. We have the war and a near promise there will be more, election reform, media consolidation, the economy, Social Security and Medicare, education, the environment, and civil rights all needing IMMEDIATE attention. These are all core issues that affect our quality of life.

I wish we could organize into loud, noisy teams to change things in a massive grassroots movement.
