Here's my Dem Committee endorsment of Howard Dean for DNC Chair
I live in Killingly, CT

Press Release

On behalf of Killingly, CT’s Democratic Committee, and my Democratic Committee Chairperson, I’m proud to inform you that on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, Killingly, CT Democratic Town Committee unanimously endorsed Howard Dean for Democratic National Committee Chair. Our chaiperson will be sending a letter to each member of Connecticut’s Democratic National Committee delegation urging them to vote for Howard Dean. Below are the main reasons we have for endorsing Howard Dean for DNC Chairperson.

• We believe at this time in our Party’s history that we need a Democratic National Committee Chairperson, who will publicly and fearlessly champion core Democratic principles, principles which are beneficial to our nation as a whole, and offer a holistic vision to restore our American community. Unlike George Bush’s vision of an “ownership society,” which are code words for a “Dictatorship of the Robber Barons”, Howard Dean, in his announcement speech on January 11, 2005 http://www.blogforamerica.com/archives/005781.html>http://www.blogforamerica.com/archives/005781.html , emphasized that America is a commonwealth of citizens from “red” and “blue” states, not a coalition of individuals. As a commonwealth or community of citizens, we, Americans, work together towards making this country and world more just, prosperous, and peaceful for everyone, not just the wealthy elite.

• We recognize that Howard Dean has the ability to take a bad situation and make it better. As Governor of Vermont, his fiscal prudence led Vermont from a multi-million dollar deficit to a surplus, decreased a portion of his state’s debt, balanced Vermont’s budget every year, and decreased taxes fairly. While being fiscally responsible, he was still able to improve the lives of his state’s citizens. The Democratic Party is in need of this unique ability of Howard Dean’s. Our Party is in a minority status against a ruthless Republican machine. Leading the Democratic Party to forsake its own noble principles and adopt Republican or rightwing ones will further alienate Democratic Party members and continue to confuse the public about what the Democratic Party stands for. Through his PAC, Democracy for America, Howard Dean works to rebuild the Democratic Party from the grassroots up by defending and promoting core Democratic values. By being Democratic National Committee Chairperson, we believe that Howard Dean can rebuild the Democratic Party faster.

• We recognize that Howard Dean already has experience challenging and defeating the ruthless Republican machine. He challenged and defeated the ruthless neo-conservatives during his last re-election bid as Governor of Vermont, and during his Presidential Primary campaign, he continued to battle them while rallying Democrats. After he lost his Presidential Primary bid, Howard Dean enthusiastically campaigned for the National ticket, and through his PAC, Democracy for America, he energetically campaigned for Democrats running at all levels. We believe that the Democratic Party will be more successful against the ruthless neo-conservatives with Howard Dean at the helm of the Democratic National Committee.

• Of all the candidates vying for the Democratic National Committee Chair, Howard Dean is the only one who has actual experience rejuvenating our participatory democracy in our nation. He has had the most success at inspiring apathetic and alienated voters of all ages to participate in our electoral process. His Primary Campaign’s and current PAC’s tactic of guiding citizens to join together via Meetups and the Internet is a healthy way to channel citizens’ anger and frustrations into constructive team building exercises, which will lead to non-violent transformation of this country’s political system as well as rejuvenate the Democratic Party.

• The attributes we describe above about Howard Dean are particularly important to us Democrats in Connecticut. There are “red” spots in our “blue” state of Connecticut. Connecticut Democrats look to retake the Governorship in 2006 from the Republicans, and we, Democrats in Eastern Connecticut, seek to retake the 2nd Congressional District from Republican control. We agree with Howard Dean’s position that we must reach out to our fellow “red state” Americans and persuade them that Republican policies are harmful to them and their families, but in so doing, we must never forsake or downplay our core Democratic principles. As Democratic National Committee Chairperson, we believe that Howard Dean is the best candidate, who can help revitalize the Democratic Party as a whole, and help Democrats in Connecticut reclaim “blue” districts that have gone “red.”

I wrote the endorsement and sent this to Howard Dean, Democracy for America, and all our local and regional newspapers in CT.

Enjoy!

4. Yes, I wrote it
After my Chairperons asked me to write this endorsement, I went back to my PC and found stuff I had written about Dean, put it together, and then tied it to why CT DNC members should vote for Dean. I took me 3 days to write and edit it.

My Chairperson really liked it. She thought that I'd only write a boring one paragraph letter. I told her that we, who live in Lieberman's state, needed to make a statement about why Howard Dean is the best person to lead this Party.
