Why Do People Still Have Kerry/Edwards Gear On Display?
I still see K/E signs in peoples windows downtown, and yard signs in the neighborhood.

1. Because people still are displaying */Chenass stuff. I saw a
car today that had both Kerry/Edwards and Gore/Leibermann bumper stickers. The guy backed the winners both times.

4. If you wouldn't be to embarrassed, ask sometime
I'd like to know for sure too.

I suspect they want people to know they're not Bush supporters. But it could be that they think Kerry actually won. Either way, it's a shorthand method to convey where they stand.

I would expect to still see bumper stickers, but it is interesting that there are still yard and window signs.

20. Mine is up for the duration, too!
Plus a "Count the Votes, Sign" and a poster of the hooded tortured Iraqi prisoner.

My car has never had more bumper stickers. I have a stash of fliers, of my favorites, i.e. "Winning a War is as Likely as Winning an Earthquake". I gently put them, under the wind shied wipers of those with over the top Pro-bu$h crap all over their car.

Thats me, BAD! It is like a little peace bomb! Easy to make up on the computer, and have in your pocket for grocery store parking lots.

Is that illegal?

either never displayed one or took theirs off right away:
Yes the Democrats are still here

and there are more of us than you think.

My next door neighbor has her 96 Clinton Gore, 2000 Gore/Leiberman and 2004 Kerry Edwards still on her car.

It pleases me to see the Kerry gear as much as it sickens me to see the Bush/Cheney or the stupid "W" stickers.

It is a nice reminder to the other half of the country that they are not the only ones who supported and voted for Kerry.

10. I'm a subsitute teacher, and I want kids to see them
I don't espouse my own political views in class, unless a kid asks me point-blank. But I do have a lot of kids who know me and like me and seem interested in my viewpoints and opinions.

If they see me driving a vehicle with said bumper stickers (as well as a DU sticker!) in the back window, and it leads them to do some investigating of the subjects and issues on their own, so much the better!

(I was going to take off the Kerry one after inauguration day--then I heard about how he got booed by the Republicans, and I decided to leave it on as a statement.)

15. Some ask why, I ask why not?
It's the secret handshake among supporters
an act of opposition against man-daters
a statement of principle
an announcement that we were pro-Kerry, not just anti-Bush
a subtle screw you to the chickenhawks, when combined with my veterans for peace sticker
It's a proclamation that I do not accept Bush as my president
It's my surrender to peer pressure, so I'm not the only one in the parking lot without it!

16. Because my bumber sticker makes me happy
I know Kerry lost. I wish he won. I consider it a badge of honor and it identifies me as a member of the blue group. I still see lots of Kerry bumper stickers. (Also, I realized when I put it on originally (with great hope) that it made me a more courteous driver. Although not logical, I didn't want anyone to associate my less than good action with the Kerry sticker.)

Did you remove your high school stickers because they lost too?

32. Thank You. Rub the cheating losers faces in it.....
The repubs only know how to steal elections, not win them. Even if Kerry wasn't the ideal candidate a majority of the people voted for him - even if only the massive fraud in Ohio is true.

I keep my Kerry stuff up because that loser in the White House AIN'T my duly elected President. He's scum. He's driving a bull dozer through the Constitution and the OUTRAGE I feel some times makes me want to get my lawn sign back for God sakes.

Why do people keep things from winning superbowls and such?

Proud of my candidate. I don't care who knows it either. He wasn't perfect, but who is? We'd be in a hell of a lot better shape with him running things than the chimp.

38. welcome to DU
:hi:

whether or not the Democrats understand "middle America" is a legitimate topic of discussion at DU and, as I understand the rules, that (alone) won't get you booted from DU.

But, people come to DU in part as a support system and people posting something along the lines of "why do you have your heads up your asses?" as one of their first posts tends to rub people the wrong way.

I still have my bumper sticker on. I haven't taken it off in part because I just haven't gotten around to it. But in part, I left it on because I want people to know how I voted. This is not because I think I know better, although obviously I think that people who didn't vote for Kerry made a bad decision. In my neck of the woods, Democrats are often intimidated into being silent while republicans scream their affiliation from the rooftops. I want other Democrats to know they aren't alone and I want people to know that I am proud of my vote.

have the right to say what you want to say. It's just that if someone jumps in after 9 posts and starts Kerry bashing, they really aren't off to a good start.

I've done a lot of research on election fraud and on Bush's behavior and his m/o has been corrupt for a long time.

Every single one of our Constitutional Bill of Rights have been tramped on by his administration. So if I still think our guy would have been a better choice, I have the right to say so as well.

How do you think repubs would feel if Gore had cheated and won and then Kerry had cheated and won?

36. Listen 9 posts - it's called election fraud and it's real.....
It would be sour grapes if we really weren't cheated, but it isn't Kerry himself perse, it's the fact that repubs have enough money to buy elections now - they own the voting machines and key personnel to get the job done, so why bother to compete fairly?

In America we are supposed to have fairly run elections and 2 terms running it's been rigged. You'll read about it someday when you grow up, I'm sure.

People stood out in the rain for more than 4 hours to vote and then still didn't get let into the polling place because Ohio shorted Democratic precincts. You tell me why there would be 6 voting machines for the primary's and only 3 voting machines for the same precinct when the voter turn out was expected to hit record numbers? And having about 60 voting machines just sitting in a warehouse?

Why would any sane AG decide to switch precincts, not notify the voters and combine precincts either across the street from each other, so people thought they were in the right place only to be told once they had waited hours and hours that they were in the wrong place and bounced back and forth and maybe given provincial ballots if they pushed for them?

Democratic voter registrations were rescued from the trash in Nevada.

Voting machine tapes - signed by election judges and showing a lead for Kerry - found in the trash in Florida and coincide with "missing" tapes the Florida representatives supposedly guarding the election couldn't find.

And when I hear repub rhetoric coming out of someone under 50 posts and they jump from thread to thread, I don't trust their good intentions and feel like giving 'em a little hell. At the same time if someone is honestly expressing their opinion, I'd hate to be the reason they give up on DU.

26. I've struggled with this myself. I could not stand to take it off, but
Edited on Mon Feb-07-05 08:43 PM by Scout1071
last Friday I was a the car wash and it came off on the rinse. I was hand washing and it was a magnetic "sticker" but I saw it as a sign and haven't put it back on.

Having said that, I'm desperately looking for a new one, with a new message. I need something that gets my progressive view across without being too offensive because I live in a red majority and I make sales calls and entertain clients in my car.

In fact, I think we need to come up with a new message all together. It's time to move on from Kerry/Edwards. Let's put our collective minds together and come up with an appealing new message. Not to copy the Pugs, but we need a strong message that people can grasp onto and display everywhere from the city to the burbs in ALL the states.

I've never been able to understand how the rethugs "out branded" and "out marketed" us. I mean, almost all the creative and ad agency folks I know are Dems.

Possible to launch an ad think tank here at DU? Creative and Advertising people unite for the cause!

67. What about stickerjunkie.com
I've got a bumper sticker created by ClassWarrior that he had printed by them. Go and have a look. Takes a bit of money, but not a ton.

I'm leaving my K/E and my Feingold on until they come off. I'm ordering Kerry 08 stickers and a wristband from another website.

Otherwise, I've seen right in the middle of freeperland here "Exfoliate the Shrub" and "51% is NOT a Mandate"

Or perhaps for SS you could have "http://thereisnocrisis.com"

Or perhaps better for the Red State folks, you could find the "I support the troops, and I vote democratic". That makes the point, I think.

Anyway, there's a way for you to make your own if you so choose.

53. Can't we have both? Honor the Kerry battle and plan the next?
What are we, black widow voters? If the candidate doesn't win, we must devour him and select a new champion?

Makes it hare to get the next champion, don't you think?

62. If I wanted to see a Dem run again, it would be Gore
I'm just saying that maybe we look for a new message that all of us DU'ers, Dems, Progressives and Moderates can embrace and get the message out that we are united, we've had enough of this regime, we are not going to lie down and we are going to be a strong positive force moving FORWARD.

Again, I completely understand. My magnetic K/E sticker is sitting in my console. I've been contemplating whether to put it back after it came off in the car wash over the weekend.

74. But what I'm asking is do we have to thrash a candidate who...
is a quality person because he got into a situation so full of dishonesty on a scale that was not imaginable years ago, even though he stands for an intelligent approach to government at a time we really really need it?

Gore said some good things - he had a lot of momentum from working with Clinton and a bi-partisan house/senate.

However, Kerry was front line in this shit for politics war that should have never been, would never have been if the press hadn't whored out and the election not bought and paid for by the repubs.

All I'm saying is to give the man credit for fighting as hard as he could and give it a rest.

I consider it a way of signaling to other Dems that they are not alone or forgotten, and that I was for Kerry because I believed in him -- not just because I wanted anyone but Bush. It's a way of letting others know what I stand for and what I believe in and that the fight goes on!

81. The things I didn't tear up in a rage when Kerry conceded
have remained up. At first, it was depression and then I just didn't get around to it. Now, though, I see that it chaps the butts of many people so they stay. I think it's important that I do my part to piss of fascists and supporters of fascists.

I do kind of feel vaguely hypocritical because I would never, ever support Kerry (Edwards, yes. Kerry, no way) ever again.

But the pissing off the fascists ends up trumping.

83. Depressed, I guess
Or maybe just lazy. Look, I wanted Kerry to win, and I like to ascertain my engaged Democratic credentials, but I have to wonder why I cling to the K/E ticket. Were they that great? I thought Kerry was a bit pathetic, really. Like most Democrats, he blamed Bush for misleading him and the public into war. He should have done the research himself, looked up the I and R wing of the State Department, and voted nay on the Bush Empowerment resolution (he should have done so anyway on constitutional grounds, but that's just a matter of opinion. I'm slightly constitutionally conservative.) There was this guy running for senate in Colorado, Mike Miles, who opposed the war from the start because he didn't just follow the president, he researched the issue himself and found out the truth.

I do actually think Kerry is a bit too politically minded for my tastes. Like Howard Dean says, in order to win you have to stand up for what you believe in. I don't expect to support Kerry if he runs again because, besides being tainted, he didn't get me excited except at the prospect that Bush would be gone.

So Kerry's out. I hope Mike Miles runs for senate in '08 and wins, then goes on to be president, because he was phenomenal. Until then, I'm scouring the news for a presidential candidate I can believe in. E-mail me at trevorbaim@rocketmail.com if you have any suggestions.

It's a way we can show the Red voters that there are a LOT us of Blue voters in our state, even though the state went to Bush. Many of us wave to eachother. It's also support system of sorts. We need to know, we are not alone! LOL!

I also like the Red voters knowing where I stand.

I'm leaving my sticker on until the next primaries when I replace it with whatever candidate I support.

someone (i have a few repubs living in our apt complex) took my sign out of my yard and through it in the trash. i dug it out of the trash and put it back up because i didn't think that anyone had a right to tell me 'the election is over, move on or i'll make you move on'

it's been up ever since.

along with many of you here, i want to show my support for the K/E ticket and my rejection of this regime that's hell bent on aquiring as much wealth and power before they destroy humanity and our planet.

i'm thinking of replacing the lawn sign with something in my apt window so that they can't mess with it and it will bother them like crazy that they can't remove it on my behalf.
