I Saw The Coolest Bumper Sticker And On A 05 Jaguar No Less
Edited on Mon Feb-07-05 06:58 PM by DemocratSinceBirth
Not the "Baby Jag" but the larger more expensive model which must sell for > $50,000.00

The bumper stick was in red white and blue and read "Pro America-Anti -Bush"....

That pretty much sums up how I feel about my nation and this maladministration....

4. Lots Of Rich Folks...
Edited on Mon Feb-07-05 06:59 PM by DemocratSinceBirth
I would say my friends are evenly mixed between the well to do and the not so well to do and there is a negative correlation among them between wealth and support for the Chimpster...

I also thought the owner was brave to put that sticker on his or her Jag with all the Freepers and quasi freepers out there...

Besides the anecdote I provided I would suspect hard data would show for many folks their cultural interests trump their economic interests.... Lots of working class folks vote Republican because they believe the Republican's best represent their cultural values and lots of rich folks vote Democratic because they like the Democratic position on choice and gender issues...

3. Sounds like my mother
She has an anti-Bush decal prominently placed on the back of her Mercedes Benz. Some affluent people still have a conscience.

6. Theory: Old money vs. new money
It my corner of the world, I have noticed that those from established upper-middle class backgrounds with generations of professionals in their family tree tend to back the Democrats either as 'Rockefeller Republicans' or true Democrats. The "new money" upper-middle class (let's call them 'neo-moneys') tend to back W. I think the neo-moneys are much less secure in their social position and ignorantly believe that W will help keep them in their newly elevated social stature.

Just a theory.

7. This is very true. Old money vs. new money.
What I've found, personally, to be the case:

Old money spend theirs on education

New money spend theirs on Hummers.

Those coming from traditionally wealthy families are intellectual in nature. Those who have recently found their way into money have strong resonating connections to the 'pull yourself up by the bootstraps' touting Bush administration. There is much political strategy behind parading the backgrounds of Dr. Rice and Gonzales.

11. also, the concept of buying quality merchandise ...
One of my friends grew up in an "old money" family -- she would rather save up for a high-quality coat which she can wear for many years, than splash out something that just looks expensive (but may actually be shoddy). She's a very sharp shopper and has given me a lot of helpful advice. As you say, her family was more likely to spend money on education than on anything so ostentatious as a "fad" vehicle. They looked on a college degree (or lessons in art, music, etc.) as a blue-chip investment.

The Jag story reminds me of the Inspector Morse car! (In Dexter's books, Morse buys a Jag which he drives forever -- takes very good care of it too.)

8. Well, the old theory is, if you want to live like a Republican,
vote for a Democrat.

Worked under Clinton. (No, don't start with a Monica joke . . .

10. My 2004 'baby' Jag
Has seen three stickers, although in the back window, not stuck to the body. It is a Jag, after all.
"Kerry/Edwards", "Catholics for Kerry" and the current "The Left is Right".
My last three Jags have had similar experiences. They were the big ones, BTW.
Money does not make a good Democrat, nor does the lack of it. The Jags were the result of many years of seriously hard work. The choice of party is the result of social conscience. I am most proud of the latter.

13. Always had a Greenpeace sticker on my Benz
And rich is relative. I've owned seven Porches, two Ferrari's and a number of Mercedes. I don't consider myself rich by any means but you can usually sell thoe cars for at least what you paid for them. In other words, drive them for free. Just good money management to me. Plus, they are a gas to drive.
