America's Last Action Hero - Al Gore
America's Last Action Hero - Al Gore

Fellow democrats and progressives,

My name is Chris D. Jackson. Some may know me as a young Democratic activist and others may know me as the Administrator of the Al Gore Support Center. The reason I am writing you involves both roles. First, I believe it is my duty as a member of this great party to speak out and demand that we put the best candidates forth across the board. Second, as the owner the Al Gore Support Center, I overwhelmingly believe Al Gore is the best candidate out there and we must step up to the plate and convince him to run in 2008.

Yes, I know, some of you may believe Al Gore had his chance back in 2000. I also know that some of you have other choices for 2008. It is our job as loyal hardcore Gore supporters to make a case for Gore's re-entry in 2008 and build the framework for an all out grassroots campaign. Our organization was created in 2002, a few months before Gore said he would not seek the nomination. Nevertheless, our site did not cease after his announcement. For the next year, our site lead efforts with other groups to try to "draft" Gore into running. Our efforts were admirable, but Gore graciously declined.

After choosing to sit out the 2004 election, Gore worked tirelessly to see that George W. Bush's administration was brought to an end. Throughout 2003 and 2004, he gave some of the most explosive and passionate speeches in recent memory on topics such as the Abu Gharib prison scandal to the Bush administration's handling of the Iraq war. Back in early 2004 he was the first to call on the Bush defense team to resign for "incompetence". During that same time period Gore also assailed the Bush administration on their abuse of our civil liberties though such documents as the Patriot Act, which he called for a full repeal. During the past two years, maybe the most talked about issue by Vice President Gore was our environment. He again raised serious concerns about global climate change, pollution, and our over dependence on foreign oil. He also reminded us that protecting the environment for the future is itself a moral value. Just recently Gore was named Chair of a new investment firm that deals with "sustainable" investing in companies that adhere to strict environmental and social policies. Al Gore is the true moral leader of our country.

You may now ask, "What makes you think Gore would run again"? The honest answer is--we don't know. However, due to recent reports by CBS News and Howard Fineman of Newsweek, we believe that he will run, especially if he sees that there is support there. We are the ones that have to build that support. Right now we are registering people to our site, which in effect gives us the ability to send them news, info, and ask for help via email. Our site also is unique in some more ways. We were the first campaign site on the web in 2003 to launch a "media watch group" for a candidate. Our media watch group carefully watches the media to see what is being said about Gore, and if it is negative or false, we report it, debunk it, and then publish the truth. Along with our media watch group, we have a section of our site called Gore myths. This section is dedicated to debunking all right wing lies about Gore such as the "invention of the internet" quote. We are truly grassroots and we are ready for the fight.

Finally, I make this appeal for your help not just as a Democrat, but an American. Don't you think it is time that our country gets a leader back in power who is respected throughout the world? Don't you think it is time we go and get our good name and reputation back? And don't you think it is time to have someone with vision and leadership who cannot only lead but inspire people again? Al Gore is the best man to do it. Just look at his record. (http://algore2008.net/accomplishments2.html) His accomplishments are unsurpassed and his dedication to America is unwavering.

If you are ready to have a real President who will fight for the people, not the powerful, I urge you to join us in bringing back the man who was duly elected in 2000 and electing him the 44th President of the United States of America!

Thank you and god bless you,

Chris D. Jackson

1. Well if he does decide to run in 2008...
he needs to lose some weight. :D Not that I have room to talk, I'm no stick figure, but the last thing you need to do is give the MSM pundits something like your physical dimensions to be blabbering about instead of focusing (oxymoron alert, a MSM substantive policy discussion? why. i. never.) on what's coming out of your mouth. :)

At least people on this board couldn't bash him as a DINO or republican lite, because since 2000 he's allowed his liberal colours to show, and did fight like hell to be declared the winner in 2000...but i'm sure people on DU will bash him for all those things anyway. :D

2. I don't care what anyone says....Al Gore must be our next president.
Edited on Tue Feb-08-05 06:44 PM by Sperk
After 8 years of President Anti-Christ, a "good" candidate will not suffice. We must have the "best". Gore is one of a few who is bright enough to get us out of this mess we are in.

"lock box" doesn't sound so funny now, does it?

18. I hope Gore runs
I really liked Kerry and Edwards and was proud they were my first election and Kerry is definietly a personal hero, but I also love Gore. So if he does run and make it through the primaries I'd love to vote for him. I was too young in 2000. :( Has anybody heard anything official from him? I know it's too early but I was just wondering.

20. Not official
But insiders are saying he is considering it. He will test the waters more than likely with some speeches and proposals within the next 2 years. Mr. Gore is a personal friend and I trust he will step to the plate and save our country!

4. Gore will need to improve his MSM image
I love Gore and think he would make a super president. He was part of the team that cleaned up Bush I's mess and he'd do a great job at cleaning up *'s mess as well.

That said, Gore's MSM image is badly tarnished. To be considered a serious contender, he will have to find a way to fix his image in the MSM. I don't know how he can do it. If he can, I will support him without hesitation. But it is up to him to prove he can reverse the unfair caricature the media has created.

He'll also have to show he has a better campaign strategy and message.

I hope he can turn it around in 4 years. I'd love to be able to support him.

5. I think Al Gore should concentrate on his television station
He's a good spokesperson for us but I just think his boat has passed in terms of running for President. I love the guy and I hate to be so blunt but he's "damaged goods". We need him definitely but he would be much more useful in other areas.

Wes Clark is the perfect candidate for 2008. He fits both the "strict father" as well as the "nurturing parent" worldviews. I'm focused for the moment on 2006 and working to elect progressives to the house and the senate and also the state and local levels. After that it's Wesley Clark all the way.

Al Gore has a very valuable role to play but just not as a Presidential candidate. I feel the same way about John Kerry.

6. "The people" are the last great heroes. They never get the credit.
And they know it.

They don't want another "action hero".

They need someone who will gather and lead their hopes, disappointments, struggles and aspirations!!!

They need someone who will validate with strength and conviction their blind loyalty to a nation that MUST be "righteous".

They need a "hero" that justifies the difficulties with being an American who never reached that "dream" that the TV "BOX" portrays as everybody's reality.

I would suggest Gore do a "gore" campaign and PURPOSELY REVEAL REAL AMERICA with an antidote.

Until we get our fingernails dirty,...we are going NOWHERE!!!

8. permission to cross-post?
i would love to see Gore come back on the scene, but he needs better writers. he has an AMAZING story, and can fill the biggest shoes... he just needs good, smart, non-insider help.

i actually had a fantasy this morning about gore running again and getting jon stewart to advise politcallly. okay, that probably reveals waaaaaay too much about me. i LOVE gore! he is a prince! a real statesman and a true gentleman. he was bullied for being *smart* and that's just tragic for us as a culture.

i just hope there will be a 2008 to plan for.

i'd love to help your cause in whatever way possible.

15. I'm with you Chris, Al Gore's my man.
already logged onto the web site months and months ago and am willing to volunteer for Gore the minute he jumps into the fray.

Gore has a lot more support than the pundits would ever admit. He is considered a class act and an honorable man.

16. Al Gore
would make a hell of a president. I still remember how devastated that night he conceded (and was forced to...).

He'd be near the top of my list of '08 candidates.
