Just what the HELL are the dems doing wrong?



President Bush has a 57% job approval rating in a new Gallup Poll. This is his best score since last January. While the public is fairly split on his Social Security initiative, the numbers on Iraq could not look better for the President. 53% say things are going well or moderately well in Iraq. 64% believe that a democrarcy will be established in Iraq.

Perhaps most crucial is the following report:

“The poll suggests a positive environment for Bush’s party. Republicans received a 56% favorable rating, compared with 46% for Democrats — a 10-point advantage, up from 6 points in September. And 55% said Bush’s policies would move the country in the right direction — up from 51% last month.”

Bottom Line: It’s incredible what an election, a superb speech, and an awesome visual can do.

2. I don't hold much stock in polls

If you believe polls, John Kerry would be president now. I sometimes think, (putting on tinfoil hat) that the pollsters are paid to generate "positive" polls.

3. First thing, it's Gallup.

Take away about 6 points from the republican score. Second thing is that many democrats are probably feeling pretty down on the party after the recent November loss.

We could (and at DU we do!) argue endlessly over what Dems are doing wrong. But what can we do differently, considering how many Americans are stupid, apathetic, or both. When they are too dumb or lazy to think for themselves, or don't give a rat's ass about the truth, is there anything we can do?

think that they're high because of *'s Social Security Plan and the Budget. I think they planned it this way knowing that they would get a bounce from the Iraqi election and then slide these two losing plans in right before the #'s were announced from the polls after the election. Let's watch the next poll - that one will be more telling.

They should not report on polls taken directly after something like the elections in Iraq. They should wait a couple of weeks after people have digested everything.

Doing it this way means you're less likely to be skewed by momentary shifts in public opinion that are different from longer term trends.
