Poll question: Attn: Kerry-voting Republicans of DU: Do we offend you sometimes or not?
I was going to make this a post question. But by using a poll instead, if you don't wanna say anything, you don't have to. But someone just said something about Dems trying not to offend all Republicans, because some of y'all are not happy with Bush either. So I'm wondering. Does some of our language offend, or do you see it as more directed at Bush Co and the neocons than ALL Republicans?

1. It's not the language but rather
some people here tend to generalize and lump together to the extent it's like saying all Muslims are terrorists.
I personally just consider those who lump to be immature and usually just skip over their posts. Nothing worthwhile to see here, move on.
They do more to hurt the anti-bush cause by giving good reason for the "freepers" lump together all DUers as a bunch of wackos.

3. I think you inadvertently hit the nail on the head
Freepers. We got Democrat freepers. Not alot, but enough. I think some of our more sane members are happy as hell to hear that some Republicans are in agreement with us on Bush. Gives me hope for the future.

I've often said that's why there are two sides to every wingnut. We have folk who are detached from reality, same as the other side. And no matter what we do, their activities will be held up by folks like Rush as indicative of the whole movement. But you're right, it doesn't help the cause, and I cringe sometimes.

Like you said though, it's only some.

Thanks for responding!

2. Other: Person by person basis.
It appears to me that some people use terms like repuke to indicate particularly odious members of the Republican party. Others use it to refer to all members.

And even the latter don't offend me. I just get concerned that they aren't thinking about what they are saying. In the same way I am concerned about conservatives who support Bush just because he is the Republican candidate for President, without observing what he's actually done in office.

Blind allegiance to a political party is a bad thing in my opinion, no matter what that parties platform is. I apply that mindset to Republicans and Democrats alike. (And Greens, and Libertarians...)

4. AMEN!
I know some Republicans like that. They talk as if Bush is a fiscal conservative (bwahahahaha...coff...coff). I ask them if they've even looked at their candidate.

I agree, blind allegiance is not a good thing, no matter what the cause. Eyes open!

Thanks for reponding!

5. Yes I am one that is very offended.
Please will you all just stop saying bad things about we Republicans
and calling us mean names and that sorts of things? Always poking at
us and poking at us and poking at us. There is only so much a person
can take in this life before they get up and break some furniture or clothes or something. I am very offended and plus it hurts my feelings and makes me want to go nuts and do some major damage to my immediate
surroundings. Please be more sensitive to your fellow human being that
happen to be a Republican. We are all American and want the same thing,
that is peace in the world for those that deserve it and prosperity at
home for them that has earned it. So please, knock off the name-calling
and mean spirititness. Remember, others may hate you but those who hate
you don't win unless you hate them, and then you destroy yourself.

7. Tee hee.
No, personally I like to be called lots of awful mean names
because it toughen me up and make me tough and then I say
something funny and grin and make more fans. But some people
are more sensitive and when they hear like "blood drinker child
molester Nazi!" it can upset them and they go, "Oh, a Democrat going
postal, I guess I vote for the Republican." See, Republicans never
get upset or call people names. Well, they call people names, but
they do it so the undecided doesn't think it's a name somehow.
Or they go hey oh that was just a joke sorry if you got upset, kid.
He that who gets upset and calls names and drools and spews, loses.
He that always smile and glad hands and joking around and when
they call names make it be sublimnial, win. Always think of the
quiet one in the corner that is watching and weighing, listening
for the not polite word or piece of droll in the corner of
the mouth that means madness and fear. But personally, yes, call
me many names because I eat them like flapjacks and get stronger
and happier.

8. IF u agree with us.. STOP SUPPORTING THE FACISTS.. join DEMS!
I dont see how anyone can be a repulican, unless your brainwashed (political or religious), or facist. I understand the republicans used to stand for valid points, but that is not the party now.. its the nazi party now, NO DOUBT! The links are direct from Prescott Bushes objection to the US helping Europe, to dozens of senators and religous leaders (with the ears of powerful ppl) that agreed with the nazis, and there children are now doing there own version here! and like it or not.. they are doing it under the republican flag!

17. If they join anyone else, it's probably going to be the Libertarians
not the Dems.

I know several borderline Libertarian.

As for your other point, if a faction you found heinous altered your party, would you leave that party or would you stay and fight to get it back?

Some Republicans already have changed affiliations, I reckon. But some want their party back, I also reckon.

18. I'm more 'Independent' than Libertarian...
Not to stereotype, but I always think of that Libertarian fringe element building underground shelters in the woods of Idaho with stockpiles of weapons and food. Not my cup of tea.

Plus, I don't believe in zero-government but I do want checks-and-balances in government...something we are sorely lacking right now. Sure, I'd like my party back, but I have always been an independent voter inside the voting booth so party affiliation just isn't my greatest concern. Putting sanity back into my country is my primary concern and the Democrats offer the best hope for the future.

21. I think Republicans who are unhappy with their party
should remain republican and fight to take it back. Not join another party and try to make it republican. You can vote for whoever you want in the general election but the primaries is where you really get to shape the party.

I thought about leaving the democratic party after the election but decided not too. I'm glad I didn't throw in the towel. I'm seeing some really great changes just in the last few months. The democrats are starting to get tough and I think Reid is great. I'm also happy to see Dean will be getting the DNC chair.

Republicans can work to change their party too. Kick the neo-cons out and take it back!

15. ...and welcome to DU...
It gets a little hairy scary here, but at least we're not a bunch of dittoheads. Lots of different opinions to sample, no two the same, and you are virtually guaranteed to piss someone off eventually!

Have a good time!

10. I've wondered the same thing.
Although I sometimes fail to specify when I'm going off in a rant, I actually like many classic Goldwater Republicans. I don't agree with them, especially in economic issues, but I can usually understand where they're coming from and can have a serious discussion.

Like many here, the one and only ideological set that I can't stand are the Religious Right. It is impossible to reason with someone whose understanding of government and law enforcement is based in punitive religious precepts.

13. When I say "repuke" you can BET I am not talking about
any republican who voted for Kerry. Any republican who voted for Kerry, I have enormous respect for, as they obviously haven't had the Kool-Aid and can look at their party with wide-open eyes and see what's gone wrong.

24. No problem with liberals and progressives
the ones who make my teeth itch are best described as leftists. But I suppose, when you look at a wingnut, you realize it has two sides. We have to have left wingnuts to match the right wingnuts, I suppose. Every factions has its mirror on the other side.
