Shelley staffer says supportive emails are very helpful! This is really
important!

http://tinyurl.com/4mezj> In brief: CA Sec of State Kevin Shelley resigned last Friday, effective as
of March 1. He had decertified and sued Diebold for their lies about their
electronic voting machines, and provided Californians with a paper ballot
option for 2004. The charges against him seem farcically minor, and are
probably wholly unfounded. His real sin was going after Diebold, and trying
to protect CA's election system--with Arnold Schwarzenegger planning an
initiative this year to redistrict CA and rid him of CA's progressive
legislature, among other BushCon plans for CA. This is no longer just the
RNC v. Shelley, it is the RNC vs U.S. voters (and how they can use their
HAVA money, i.e. funnel it into republican beholden vendors, or lose it.
Unfortunately, some of CA's Dems are corruptly tied up with Diebold (or just
ignorant of the perils), and have piled on to the attack on Shelley, which
was led by the San Francisco Chronicle (a truly execrable newspaper) and it
all got telegraphed around the state, putting terrific pressure on Shelley
(whose mother is in intensive care, according to the L.A. Times).
Shelley needs supportive emails. There appears to be some question about
whether he may rescind his resignation if he gets enough support. Unlikely,
but still some question.
This is a witch hunt. There is no question that this is retaliation for
decertifying Diebold, and just like Kerry who didn't first realize the
magnitude of the Swift Boat liars, before he knew it this whole thing
escalated out of proportion. Shelley's attorneys told him to not remark,
because every time he did it it was met with retaliation of more charges.

I just called and talked to a staff person in Shelley's executive office. He said supportive emails are definitely helpful, even from out of state voters! I specifically asked if emails from those of us outside CA are helpful, and he said yes.
Supportive emails can be used to show:
1. That Shelley has support
2. That WE ARE WATCHING this, all over the nation.
3. That we know this is a smear campaing and it's about Shelley standing up to Diebold.
He said BE SURE TO PUT IN SUBJECT LINE something that indicates the email is in support of Shelley. Tell why you support him and why you object to the charges brought against him.

This is from an email I got from someone who knows a lot more than I do about the details:

The partisan allegations against Shelley totaled less than $2,000.

The new EAC appointment Gracia Hillman is a good
friend of Patty McCormack (the Ventura County election official who is
leading the charge in retracting Shelley's 2006 paper trail on the
grounds that it was a "fake crisis.")
