Dayton "forced" out of running?

I'm not sure if I should post this as it is definitely a "he said, she said" thing but a very good friend of mine here in Minneapolis told me that Mark Dayton essentially dropped out of the senate race as he was getting no support from the DFL. They feel he is too much of a wild card and they want to run a more centrist candidate.
Make of this what you will but it just made my heart sink. Granted, Mark isn't a great speaker nor does he have the charisma of Paul but he has been awesome in standing up against this criminal administration.
I really really hope the Democrats high up in my state aren't going to make this their standard operating procedure. It's been proven time and time again this Republican light bullshit does NOT work.

1. His statement indicated

that he felt that he would not be the strongest candidate. That he duidn't enjoy the constant fund raising and wanted to spend his time as a full time Senator. He was the GOP's #1 target. His approval rating is about 43% in latest poll. But I don't know anymore than that.

2. Dayton said he couldn't be a good Senator

And spend all his time raising money for re-election. Fritz Hollings said basically the same thing. He had to raise $40,000 per week for 6 years to run a campaign.

Just take a walk past the U.S. Capitol. On the front lawn you'll see a bunch of people sitting on benches, talking on cell phones. Those are your representatives and senators begging for money.

11. Quite the sad indictment on our political infrastructure and the farce

it has become.

It saddens me and sickens me that fund-raising is the raison d'etre for Senators nowadays.

I predict a political revolution most likely within our lifetimes that targets special interests with a vengeance. The likes of DeLay are pushing things beyond the limit and it won't take much more before the unwashed masses finally wake up and scream out, "That's enough!"

His decision came as a complete suprise to both DFL and DSCC leadership. Incumbency is valuable, and should not be lightly squandered. It was a personal decision. He was getting plenty of support from DFL leadership. Just last Saturday, he gave a great speech in Anoka to the state central committee to riotous applause.

I one hundred percent hope you are right. I believe in our state and our party and would be horrified if this is the road they are choosing.

I agree. Even if someone is progressive, if it looks like they can't win, throw them overboard. Winning matters.

I really don't know anything about him, but his courage in making that speech really impressed me. What has he done that is bizarre?
