Clark wins Knox County, TN straw poll! (via Clark04.com
From the community at the site, this post, Dated 12/21

"Tonight, at an organizational meeting with state Clark campaign staffers, we learned that Clark leads former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean among Knox County Democrats by a vote count of 27 to 22. Congressman Richard Gephardt came in third with a vote of 13. The other candidates were in single digits.

The straw poll was conducted Dec. 18 at the Democratic holiday party, which included nearly all the movers and shakers in the the Knox County Democratic Party."

5. A roller-coaster
Is it just me, or has the Clark campaign been a roller-coaster? It seems like each week is filled with heartbreaking news, with the next bringing great developments--and then over and over again?

Hopefully the cycle is over, and is the preface to even better news...

9. Not for the faint of heart
Starting a campaign in late September, never having run for office, having no domestic policies really in place. Yes its been a roller coaster. But I think its mostly up from here.

Something that is shocking to me is that Al Gore's endorsement isn't helping Dean more in Tennessee. Well maybe it's not that shocking.

13. We're in for a rough ride.
Things are only gonna get tougher, as the attacks increase when everyone finally gets the message that Clark is here to stay. But I think we've got the stamina to weather the storm.

After the Feb. 3rd primaries, we should have a good idea of where we stand in this thing. It's good news to see Clark with a strong showing in Tenn. Hopefully, if Clark is the nominee, we can take that state back in a general election. Also, there is encouraging news in Oklahoma, a very conservative state. Clark seems to have a strong presence there, as well.

7. Clark won this because of a speech he gave in September
Edited on Sun Dec-21-03 11:14 PM by Bleachers7
just before he announced. He gave an amazing speech that day that had the place on it's feet roaring. David Keith is from there and he is a big Clark supporter. Clark had the place going wild.
Here is what I posted back then...

"As many of you know, I was going to the Truman Day Dinner in Knoxville, TN tonight. Al Sharpton and Wesley Clark were both there. It was pretty much a Wesley Clark party. One speaker after another either implied that Clark should run or said it. I can almost guarantee you that Congressmen Harold Ford Jr. and Lincoln Douglas are in the Clark camp. Harold Ford made a bruising non-remark for Dean. It was brutal. There were envelopes under every seat. Every one of them had a Draft Clark sticker.
A bunch of the local people spoke first. Then Sharpton spoke. He did a great job. He gave a great speech about hypocrisies and programs that he would like.
It was a love fest between Sharpton and Clark. Sharpton started it saying some nice things an acknowledging Clark at least three times. Sharpton said that he hopes that at some point “an Officer and a Gentleman” will be working together. Clark kept it going when he spoke.
Wesley Clark gave a fiery impassioned speech about America. He used Harry Truman as the theme. It was a very powerful speech. It was the most animated I have ever seen him. It was also a brutal assault on Bush and friends. Truly amazing!!! He had the room standing, cheering and clapping. He won over the room like it said in that Esquire article. The other candidates don’t stand a chance if he runs.
I am almost certain that he is running. He gave a clue that he was. Another clue that he was, was that he kissed a baby. I thought that was hysterical. The baby had a Draft Clark t-shirt.
I will post more when I have time and tell you where the pictures are. I am now going to drink some beer with Dean supporters. I wonder if they are old enough to drink? Just kidding."

16. Well, it's looking like Rev Sharpton could be a great ally
Between his intellect, his poll numbers, and his regard for
General Clark.
