MSNBC and CNN portray Gannon as a "Persecuted Conservative who is
Religious, and after all why is he being persecuted when other Presidents have used people to get their views out. Walter Winchell was mentioned on MSNBC where they had three against Ron Reagan who was "drowned out" including a jerk who is high up in US News & World Report who did the little "Winchell" story.

Blitzer never once mentioned that there is a photo of Gannon/Gurkert in his "tighty whiteys" that would make most of America Blush...especially those in the Bible Belt (well maybe not...) but most of America and he asked "soft ball questions" which allowed Gurkert to whine about death threats to his family..(his brother and his wife and his mother) and how he had a problem with his credentials with Congress (who denied him a press pass because he had to work on his website or something..don't remember that part but it was Congresses fault, not his)....

And..at this point I'm wondering if Blizter and the Gay Press Community are so scared of being "outed" themselves that they are ALL COVERING for Gannon. Which is sad, because it's not about his homosexuality but it's
that he denies it and tries to hurt other gays by slandering them and working to deny their rights.

So, Bush manages to co-opt the gay community to save Gannon's skin because it would cause "personal items" to come out about other members of our Press.

These Bushies are indeed very sick people. But clever in triangulation.

Both MSNBC and CNN were disgusting on Gannon. Has anyone mailed them the photo...oops ...I'm sure they have it already they just didn't want to talk about it. :grr:

16. Because like it or not
they are the gatekeepers as far as "news" is concerned for most of the country. They are spinning this as no big deal and so the rest of the country will think that those horrible leftists have persecuted this poor christian man because he thinks differently than they do.

Have they mentioned that he was given a white house press pass just days after talon news was created?

Have they said word one about his being testimony before a grand jury in the valerie plame outing?

They are shameless. Honest to god I can not believe what this country has come to.

It's fascinating to see how these whores can massage the truth to support this "administration's" lies.

Can't you just hear them defending Hitler??

They're so pathetic. Wonder what it's like to know you're aiding and abetting the biggest bunch of crooks in this country's history??

Must be a helluva payoff since they're destroying their children's futures, along with their own.

One has to wonder

11. Make sure not to lump ALL of the personalities on those networks together
CNN's Anderson Cooper seems none to happy with *Gannon (heard from someone here) and of course MSNBC's Olbermann absolutely NAILED his ass on last night's show.

So, if you're writing to the networks, make sure you single out those who are actually whores.

19. repost from kos comments Wolf G/G interview notes 2/10
Kurtz video intro: was an obscure member of the press corp. before he asked question recent press gaggle. He asked a rather loaded question (video of press conf.)

clip of question with "soup lines" comment

one problem, reid has never talked about soup lines
suddenly, bloggers on kos, dug into background and found his real name.
says he has been stalked by nuts on the left

mclean says he was allowed in on daily basis with daily passes.

critics call him fake reporter, lib went to far.

wolf: thanks, call you jeff or james?
gukert: call me jeff gannon. It is my professional name, license still has gukert because it is easier to pronounce.

wolf: why did you resign?
Gukert: people that disagree me have harassed me an my family. leaving my post would bring that to and end to this harassment.

wolf: how or what types of threats?
G: stalking me in my neighborhood, followed to church, hate mail phone calls. very troubling, went towards my family, so I decided to leave (talon).
W: Your family, you mean...?
G: my mother and brother got calls. contained threats, terrible things being said, disturbing and over the line.

w: one of the allegations charge you with having sexually explicit websites.

G: several years ago I registered various domain names for client. never hosted, never went up. client did something else. There are so many other things about me on the internet, can't address them all...

W: Did you try to change the subject (of press conf.) or where you there as a real journalist?
G: talon news is legit, my questions are things that my reader, 700k daily, want answers to. not fed, mclean never knew what was coming.

W: why did you not get credentials for congress?
G: made an attempt to do that, when talon was going to cover wash. our business model didn't fit the criteria of congress. went with daily pass for the white house instead. all under the process the WH sets

W: what next?
G: good opportunity, been painful but there is a silver lining. some people have called about interest in certain positions.

21. thanks for the transcript
for those who didn't see the interview - unfortunately, it looks cogent when the guy was shifty and stumbling. He was SCARED and the only time he looked straight at Wolf was at the end when he talked about being approached with other opportunities -- none of the assuredness we had seen when he was lobbing those press questions.

I swear if we had photo's of Gannon/Gurkurt in bed with the Chimp, himself, the media would say that it was a "mistake and that the "P-Resident" had gone off the wagon due to Presidential pressures and so we should forgive that he was inticed by this person...

How they manage to explain EVERYTHING AWAY coming off what was done to Clinton and that American's have NO MEMORY or sense of hypocracy still boggles my mind.

28. The most damning part of the story is the Plame connection
As little coverage as this story is getting anyway, the real point is not even mentioned in these TV stories: the connection to the Plame affair. The salacious details about the gay porn sites takes away from the likely CRIMINAL connection that Gannon provides to the Bush administration in the outing of Plame.

Main Stream Americans wouldn't get it...they don't know what "Plamegate" is. But, I give him a little credit for trying..but why not have someone on who could put it into context, if Olberman/MSNBC is serious. What Olberman did was throw a "bone" to those of us who KNOW THE STORY...but left the MSAmerica overlooking it. That's how the MSM plays us. They throw the bone to the "Internets Folks" while downplaying to the MS Americans who just think Keith is funny, gossipy and was that "sports guy."

his "Right Wing" views. The Repugs have somehow managed to get the "closeted gays" working against the Democratic Oriented OPEN Gays...and it's a war there. And the Press who doesn't want to admit they are gay that's caught in the cross fire.

I think the Gay Community needs to come together on this and root out the hypocrits...just like our so called "CHRISTIAN Community" needs to go after the Falwells, Robertsons, Dobsons and anyone else who declare THEY are more CHRISTIAN than the REST OF US.

Why are SOME GAYS allowed to be closeted REPUGS leaving out and trashing their FELLOW GAYS who are outed and MOVING ON?

Why do most of us Dems still allow the REPUGs to HERD US...like SHEEP over our BELIEFS. :grr:

42. Rapid Response Network has this--
*THE GOOD*

Keith Olberman continues to do excellent work covering barely covered stories with Countdown on MSNBC. Last night he covered the "AKA Jeff Gannon" story in-depth, including a thorough video rundown of many Gannon/Guckert "questions." A Dana Milbank (of WaPo)
interview yielded a comment that Scott McClellan likely knew that "Jeff Gannon" was a pseudonym, as his correct name must have been given in order to have received a White House press pass. Additionally, Olbermann appropriately connected the payola pundit
controversy with this rent-a-journalist and gave a rundown of Karl Rove's new policy duties (homeland security - are you feeling more secure?), pointing out that clearly, Mr. Rove isn't responsible for screening out fake journalists.

*THE BAD*

We expect more of our "free" press than asking Scott McClellan, the guy with everything to hide, whether the White House is guilty of wrongdoing in the "Gannon" scandal (http://tinyurl.com/7xlpo & see original CNN transcript here, last interview <http://tinyurl.com/5ffgq>)

BLITZER: Is there any evidence that there's a connection, that the White House put him up to this to throw these kind of questions whether to Scott McClellan or to the president? Any evidence of wrongdoing, first of all, on the part of the White House?

HOWARD KURTZ: No evidence whatsoever. I talked to Scott McClellan about this today, the White House spokesman. He said, first of all, President Bush didn't know who Jeff Gannon was when he called on him at that news conference.

*THE UGLY*

KURTZ: . . . So the issue here isn't really Jeff Gannon's ideology. He's the first to tell you that he comes at journalism from a conservative perspective. The issue I think is, should some of his liberal critics, these liberal bloggers, have started investigating his personal life in an effort to discredit him?

** RECAP **

SO, RR recap: According to sources (Scott McClellan), the WH did nothing wrong (he promises) so that isn't an issue. "Gannon" is open about his bias (but not his name and, goodness knows, facts don't seem to actually matter), so that's not an issue. The REAL ISSUE is the mean bloggers who investigated his "personal" life?

ACTION:

1. Support real journalism. countdown@msnbc.com

2. Tell the Post, CNN and Mr. Kurtz that their bias and pursuit of misleading angles in this is unacceptable. They have a constitutional role in our government. Follow the story. We want to see them asking questions in a press conference. You know, do their job.

letters@washpost.com
kurtzh@washpost.com
wolf@cnn.com

3. Write your local paper or your fave major daily or a major network or two. This story impugns the credibility of journalism. They'd better follow the story if they want to maintain a shred of decency.

RE: The Jeff Gannon Controversy - A Primer for the Press or Beginners
_____________________
Feb. 10, 2005 - An unprecedented coalition of citizen DailyKos Diarists have recently investigated and uncovered important details regarding Talon News reporter, James "J.D." Guckert (AKA Jeff Gannon). These details, along with other information reported by Media Matters and other blog sites, have led to Mr. Guckert's resignation from his position as Washington Bureau Chief for Talon News yesterday amid a flurry of controversy.
Prompted by a Jan. 26 report by MediaMatters.org regarding Guckert's "softball" questions to White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan and President Bush, members of DailyKos, an online community, began investigating the matter. (See .pdf file for more.)

45. SUBPONEA HIM. The MSM Response means he knows a lot!
The Right Wing Media is scared as hell he will get before a Congressional hearing and talk. Therefore, they are rallying around him, attempting to give him the impression that when this is all over he will still be their best buddy and that we will still have a career as a Right Wing Journalist. In truth, the best he can hope for is hush money. His days of being a media glamour boy are over. The right wing does not take kindly to sexual businessmen.

If he still wants to be in the limelight, all he has to do is switch sides a la David Brock, and the Right Wing is scared to death that this is what he will do. Hell, he does not even have to go to the Left. He can become Middle of the Road or Libertarian. Both of those groups are ok with sexual oriented businesses, too. They just dont consume as much media literature as the Right and Left so they are not as good a career choice.

He might even consider a career in acting.

48. He sure seems to love the attention. I wish we knew more of his background
though. Who runs him? Where did Eberle meet him. Did he really graduate from the "Pennsylvania University System" as he says. What were did he work all those years before he became the Talon Rep at the WH?

He seems to be very confident in being interviewed. Is it because he knows the "vast RW Conspiracy" will support him? Or, is he a "cocky, egotist," who was used as a tool? Why did Joe Wilson give that interview to him? Did Joe know something about this guy? Why did Talon have the "Memo."

There are still so many questions...I hope that some "whistleblowers" will contact the Kossacks with the "missing years."
