Condi Rice caught in a lie
During the 9/11 commission Condi Rice claimed that she had not received any information of a threat from Al Queda. Yesterday the National Secruity Archive released a memo sent to Rice from Richard Clark. The memo asked Rice to investigate Al Queda.

What with Jen and Brad calling it splitsville, Martha Stewart's release coming up soon, the new season of American Idol... there's just too much too keep up with. Repugs don't have to control the media... they're too busy to report real news anyway.

Edited on Fri Feb-11-05 08:46 AM by htuttle
He has also been talking about this at every news appearance for the last two years.

Did people think he was lying?

From what I can see about Clarke -- he's just not the lying type.

10. Why I Posted This
The reason I posted this is that it finally gives proof. As long as the memo was not released Rice and the Republicans could claim that Rice did not know. Now they have to admit that Rice was told of a threat.

The memo made the news again recently after the release of the new 9/11 report.

I'm just always amazed at how many 'revelations' come out in the mainstream news that have been fairly common knowledge for years.

(reminds me a bit of the Challenger disaster, when NASA wouldn't confirm the shuttle blew up for what seemed like several hours, even though we all saw it on TV).

34. The reason why I think
people said Clarke was lying was a) to cover their own a$$es and b) because he worked with the Clinton administration. We all know they purposely ignored all of Clinton's information and plans on beating Usama BinLadin and Al-Quida, but they hate the Clintons and democrats so much they just ignored everything. Plus of course they wanted it to happen. Remember all the drills of attacks that happened leading up? Someone posted pictures up from it in another post.

http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/04/08/rice.transcri... /
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- National security adviser Condoleezza Rice testified Thursday under oath and in public before the independent National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States investigating the attacks of September 11, 2001. The White House initially refused to allow Rice's public testimony but reversed its position after pressure from relatives of 9/11 victims, commission members and politicians.

16. Initially, they wanted her to speak in private, with no oath.
So getting her to actually testify (under oath) before the Commission took quite a bit of effort.

Of course, Bush & Cheney were allowed to meet with the Commission together, in private. And no oaths were sworn.

11. The Only Reason They Have Gotten Away with These Lies....
is because they, the Republican Party, have rigged 3 elections to get their ilk elected and into powerful positions to protect their asses. Three elections have been tampered with. Say what you want, but these lunatics did not get to where they are through a transparent election process.

These folks are way below standard for the positions they hold in office today.

This ain't our country anymore.Until the machines get un-rigged it ain't gonna change. Regain control of the voting machines and they will be toast.

write letter to your congressmen and senators asking for a congressinal investigation. Also, send copies of your letters to the editor of your local newspaper.

28. Whoa ! Rice DID say she and Clark talked of Al Queda ! Several times !
Rice told the commission that a plan to attack al Qaeda that Clarke presented to her soon after the Bush administration took office had some elements the new administration adopted, but others that would have led the country "off course."

Instead, she said, the Bush administration focused on a regional approach to al Qaeda.

29. Not just condi
Most administration representatives and the media framed the issue to imply that Bush did at least as much as Clinton, addressed all information presented to it, and that Clarke was a disgruntled employee who was out of the loop.

Condi lied. But this was a concerted effort by many people and organizations to keep blame from Bush for 9/11 and incompetence.

This should be big news. I didn't see one word today in LA Times. There should be much more discussion about this on DU and in any independent media. There should be outrage. Those interested in LIHOP should be all over this.

9/11 Commission members knew about this but were gagged from talking about it.

Kick for days.

a "threat"? or a request to investigate a potential threat. Just based on your post, this isn't a very convincing "Gotcha".

31. not to pick nits
but my copy of Webster's defines a lie as

"to make an untrue statement with intent to deceive".

We can't prove anything about here intent. It is possible that she forgot. We need to be accurate in our own claims, lest we be accused of "lying" too everytime we make a mistake (or misuse a word).

But hey, if you think that a "Bush Lied!" bumpersticker on your car passes for a reasoned response to the difficulties of dealing with uncertainties in the intelligence process, then don't let me stop you from demonstrating to a few more voters how seriously we take the responsibilities of government.

Yup- the literally hundreds of things that Bush/media says that turns out not to be true are "accidents"- just innocent, happy little accidents.

And according to you- calling people "liars" NEVER works in elections either- just ask Al "I invented the internet" Gore- right???

NEWS FLASH- the GOP/media ALREADY calls us liars & "flip-floppers"

Accidents, not lies-GOTCHA!!!

33. Of course she was caught in a lie
We all knew it. They ignored Clinton's plans and information because of who he was and how much they hate him. :eyes: Richard Clarke tried SO hard to have a meeting with Bush after he was selected in office but nobody did. He was on vacation a lot of the time his first few months and did NOTHING. France and Germany, I believe, even tried to warn him and who knows who else. But they had to let PNAC come through of course. Only way we'll ever get these people is if more democrats get in 2006 and then take back the house in more numbers and work on impeachment hearings for them all (and I think there should be a lie dector test).

Does anyone want to go to Washington with me/ have any ideas how something can be done? Seriously, this woman has (among many in the current admin., been caught in lie, after lie; shouldn't we as democratic citizens have at least the right to start an investigation process? Isn't there some way she can be removed from office-- she was sworn in, right? I just can't take these lies for another 4 years... but sadly, it looks like those in power really don't care.
