Howard Dean the big winner of the 2004 election?
Edited on Fri Feb-11-05 11:03 AM by WI_DEM
As impossible as it might seem to the right wing, Dean came out of the election as the big winner. No he didn't capture the Democratic nomination, but he survived big time. I can't think of another time a defeated candidate for the presidency (certainly one who didn't even receive the nomination) became the parties national chairman. It isn't that the party elite wanted him--most did not, he owes his victory to the grass roots who believes he spoke for them and in doing so moved the party a little bit more towards being a real opposition party.

The other big winner of the '04 election is Barbara Boxer. The third highest votes in the election and she has used her new influence in a number of ways since her re-election. From challenging the Ohio results to leading the way on Condi--her influence in the Senate, I think, is enhanced and with no further elections for six years I think she will step on lots of toes.

Who do you think some of the other Democratic winners of '04 were?

1. He is definitely the Democrat who has come out of it with the most actual
power, since he's going to head the DNC.

I am a Democrat... I am a member of the DEMOCRATIC party.

Please, leave the 'Democrat party' stuff to the freepers.

9. It's cool...
I just like to make sure all my Democratic friends recognize that the whole 'Democrat Party' thing is a right-wing linguistic assault.

They have already turned 'liberal' into a pejoritive... now they are gunning for 'Democrat'

11. I think you'll be quickly forgiven
mostly because you used the word "etimology".

5. Republicans lost big time, more than anyone will admit
When they have control over everything, everything is their fault. They can't blame their fuck-ups on Clinton anymore. They can whine about Dem "obstructionism" but in the end they are in charge so it is their fault. haha suckers

I'm sensing a major Democratic takeover in the near future, especially with Chairman Dean kicking it into high gear.

I want my country back, and with Dean as chairman, we just might get it.

7. Dean as DNC Chair can affect far more change than Dean
as president--or anybody as president. The repercussions of this will last a long time!

8. He'll get to focus on building the party
which will allow us to decisively win the white house and rebuild Congress.

Go Dean!

13. I was watching the McAullife thing last night
And it was great. Clinton did a great speech as well. On CSPAN did they show the whole thing? I kept missing the beginning for some reason. I missed Hillary and Franken. I'll have to see it on the site. I definietly think and feel that great things will happen. It will take a good long fight and organizing but I think by 2006 we'll have more democrats in the House and Congress. I think it'll be great once we can take back the country and show people the democratic party isn't dead. Like Clinton said last night: when people tell you that just tell them they're lying. We're not dead. Just getting ready to fight and battle.
I'm excited for the future of the party. :kick:

14. I can't believe how surprised the media is by his comeback...
Did they really think all those people would just go away? Yes, Dean is the big winner from the '04 election, but anyone who remembers the primary could've predicted that.
