I saw Mario Cuomo last night
Governor Cuomo gave a speech last night at the CUNY Graduate Center, sponsored by Common Cause. The man was wonderful...and his delivery was terrific. For the life of me, I cannot figure out why he is not being used more by the party.
Some quotes:

They are trying to convert God into a celestial party chairman.

Lincoln talked to God, but God talks to Bush...and when he does, it must be in Hebrew or Aramaic.

"Life begins at conception" is an assumption.
For a belief to be accepted by the general public, a SECULAR RATIONALE must exist. Otherwise you offend people.

Faith is a substitute for knowledge.

The two rules that society must folow?
Love one another
We must work together to make the society better

He also mentioned that during the last three administrations, we flourished when taxes were raised, that he asked Al Gore to run in 2004, and that he felt John Kerry would've been a great President. Funny, I felt that they may have a lot in common...except that Mario has a very lively persona...when he was joking around, he resembled no one other than Mel Brooks! What a guy! So happy I made the trip into Manhattan on a freezing cold night.

1. A real Democrat !
If I should get the opportunity to see and hear him, I'd sacrifice a lot to do so.

...O...

2. I wish Cuomo had taken Clinton's offer to be a SC Justice
He would have been one of the greats.

3. Mario Cuomo had his chances..
Cuomo could have ran for President--a lot of us would have supported him--but he chose to take his life in a different direction. He is perhaps one of the best speakers and thoughtful communicators the party has ever had. My impression is that he has chosen not to have a higher profile over the years. Too bad.

4. Now THIS was a speech!
This is the keynote speech that Mario gave at the 1984 Democratic Convention. So much of it is eerily appropriate to today!

Ten days ago, President Reagan admitted that although some people in this country seemed to be doing well nowadays, others were unhappy, even worried, about themselves, their families and their futures. The president said that he didn't understand that fear. He said, "Why, this country is a shining city on a hill." And the president is right. In many ways we are a shining city on a hill.

But the hard truth is that not everyone is sharing in this city's splendor and glory. A shining city is perhaps all the president sees from the portico of the White House and the veranda of his ranch, where everyone seems to be doing well. But there's another city; there's another part to the shining the city; the part where some people can't pay their mortgages, and most young people can't afford one, where students can't afford the education they need, and middle-class parents watch the dreams they hold for their children evaporate.
