Might as well get used to it....Hillary will be our next president!
...and as much as I like Wesley Clark, I for one will be happy when Hillary gets sworn in 4 years from now.

Hey, if the spoiled brat punk son of a horrible ex-president can become president of this country, I have no doubt in my mind that a brilliant First Lady of a former GREAT president will do the same....and unlike the Chimp, Hillary will make an excellent president. She's arguably as good or better politician than her husband, and she's the only high-profile Democrat I know of who's handled the right wing hate media with some grit. It's no small wonder that Rush and Co. are so fearful of her. She had Limbaugh in tears on TV a few years ago when she confronted him over what he had said about Chelsea. She also put the fat fuck and his friends in his place when they were getting all over Bill. Remember what she said?..."Right wing conpiracy"...and she said it in a way that made people take notice.

It's in the cards. For those of you who can't stand the thought of a Democratic candidate who has a few issues leaning toward the center, well I can't stand the thought of us losing again with some candidate who lets the right wing push them around. Hillary will not let that happen.

So get ready to find a nice place in your front yards for your "Hillary in '08" signs!

9. No kidding, she's DLC
which means pro corporate, antilabor, pro globalist, antiunion, and hostile to the needs of working people. She's focused on the DLC aims of squabbling over the yuppie vote while whoring for corporate cash.

Get it through your heads, folks, the DLC has had its day, has lost all three branches of government, and is on its way out as party power broker.

DLC pols can try to get elected wherever they can, if they can. However, the party as a whole needs to reject them if it wants to win elections, and that means running another one for top office with all the baggage those DLC hack campaign managers can bring with them.

I remember seeing Bruce Reed (is that the name?), head of the so-called Democratic Leadership Council, being interviewed on TV. This was a year or two ago. And he struck me as... well, as Wormtounge in flesh, for those of you familiar with The Lord of the Rings. Just the definition of mealy-mouthed.

Now, after learning a little more about the DLC, almost every time I hear or read the word "centrism", I cringe and think "corporate" (or I think, "you can't move to the 'center' if the right is moving to the right"). All too often, that's what "centrism" is: a euphemism for being in the pocket of multi-national corporations.

2. Won't happen. I'd vote for her, but.....
we'll still be in a war in '08, in some fashion, somewhere. The U.S. will not select a woman President for the first time, while it's at war.

Wish it weren't so. But 'tis true.

But, hey...I'd vote for her. If she runs. (and I don't think she will)

98. Esp. since Hillary herself is in part responsible for being in that war
"The U.S. will not select a woman President for the first time, while it's at war. "

Hillary has only herself to blame for that. She had the opportunity to take a stand and speak out against the lunacy of Iraq a couple years ago, and instead she slavishly supported the madness of King George (and Cheney and Rumsfeld) by trying to even out-hawk them on how badly we needed to go into Iraq. For this reason among others she's done herself in as a viable candidate.

The "center" seems to become more and more meaningless as time goes by.

Those Democrats who label themselves centrists tend to be more beholden to the interests of multi-national corporations and more likely to bash other Democrats for being "out of touch with mainstream American values" or some shit like that. At least, I've noticed this about Evan Bayh and Joe Lieberman.

Well, the elephant in the room is who has been defining "mainstream" for the last few decades.

Oh my God, she wouldn't turn a single red state blue. Not ONE. Guaranteed. You can take that to the bank. The presidency will remain a white male's club for a long time to come. A majority of the people in the heavily-rural states look at any senator from the north (and especially one named Clinton after the name got dragged through the slime all those years) as a repellent elitist whose stands for "eevil causes" like GAY RAGHTS!! ABOWRSHUN!! TAXES!! PACIFISM!! Rove will beat this into their heads until the cows come home.

And you think voter fraud was in overdrive the past four years, what do you think these vermin are going to pull at the thought of a (shudder) CLINTON taking office again?

She has so many negatives she looks like an economy-sized pack of batteries. The hard right loathes her, the left loathes her, and the middle don't like her.

Anyone who doesn't like Bill won't vote for her, anyone who thinks having a woman run the country won't vote for her.

It's a lose, lose, lose, lose situation. I know the media is working overtime already to make her the shoo-in nomination, the right would like nothing more than to get to use the vast amounts of opposition research they have on her.

Me, I'd like to get a Dem in the white house, so I'll be doing what I can to get one who could actually win nominated.

Nothing you posted is close to being true. In my area of NY which is more Repug than Democrat, the great majority of people fell in love with her and voted for her. These included many people who did not like Bill.

As far as what the right wing media is saying about her....do you really think they'd like seeing her run? No way. They say the things they do about her because they're scared shitless of her. They WANT us to think Hillary can't win.

The reason repukes are so enthusiastic towards Hillary is not because they fear her, but they KNOW it'd be like a lamb to the slaughter. She'll be about as "electable" as kerry was....less, in fact.

Can you be sure that the rethugs won't steal that election too? I remember how sure many of us were that Kerry would be the next president. But as we know it didn't happen. Maybe that scenario will play out again in 2008.

46. She would be lucky to win 1 state
Five reasons Hillary would get 35% of less in the general election:

1) You think the GOP base was mobilized this past year??? Just run Hillary and we'll see what "mobilized" really means. The GOP will break all fund-raising records and the evangelicals and RW'ers will be crawling from their hospital beds to vote against her. Why, oh why, would we run someone with a 40% negative rating??!!!

2) Hillary set the universal health care effort back 30 years with that incredibly bureaucratic plan she and her policy wonks divised. All we'll see on TV throughout the campaign is shots of that Rube Goldberg-like chart they came up with.

3) She's not a Governor!! What has she ever managed or accomplished??? Other than #2, above, which was a disaster.

4) Remember Hillary's slap at stay-at-home moms? I foresee many GOP commercials with a cookie-baking mom who talks about how Hillary is too liberal for America.

5) The left doesn't like her because she's been tacking as hard as can to the right. The centrists don't like her because they know we're going to get creamed down South and in the Midwest with her. Who the heck wants her to run??

Didn't we learn with poor Kerry? Running Senators is murder. They can't point to concrete things they've done or a record of managing something. I like Hillary, but we will be committing electoral suicide if we choose her as our Presidential candidate.

48. I like her & think she's great, but really think she'd get creamed
You have no idea of the visceral reaction just the mention of her name causes!! I used to live down South -- holy cow, they just hate her and her hubby!! It's a little better in upstate NY, where I live now, but not much.... (she ran against a real nerd in '02 and even then only got about 56% of the vote -- and this is a very blue state...)

I wouldn't mind trying to overcome that hurdle if she had a record to run on. But seriously, other than that she's a classy person and a good speaker, what else can we point to??? I'd much prefer a Governor.........

56. There is nothing to back up your statements. In fact, to the contrary
Democrats who've been polled recently have picked Hillary as the candidate they'd most likely support in 2008. She got 40% of the polled Democrats, compared to 25% for Kerry and 17% for Edwards. These were Democrats or Democrat leaners who were polled, not Repugs.
http://www.usatoday.com/news/polls/tables/live/2005-02-07-poll-results.htm#2008

It's hard to believe how many people around here are SOOOOO afraid of what Rush and Co think about Hillary. They are AFRAID of her running. If they weren't, they wouldn't pay her so much attention.

58. Those polls mean little.
Joe Lieberman polled extremely well throughout 2003 among Democrats because of name recognition. Yet he never finished above fifth place in a single primary. That shows you the value of the polls you cite.

It's hard to believe how hard you're pushing the fact that Hillary will be the nominee. You'll notice that Clark supporters, Dean supporters, Edwards supporters, Gore supporters, Kerry supporters - they all talk about how their candidate would be the best nominee, not about how it's inevitable that they will be nominated. You're not stating Senator Clinton's qualifications, you're not saying why she'd be a good president, you're only trying to tell us what we think, as if you're qualified to say so.

If we don't no democrat has a chance in hell of winning.

While I agree the speculation at this early date is pretty foolish, I don't think much would change my opinion that it's not gonna be Hillary, no matter what. She's my senator, I have nothing against her, but I don't really see why anyone sees her as presidential material. She makes a decent senator.

81. Nah, it's not just the Repukes who think that. They're just afraid
that she'll run and they're trying to make like they want her to. It's the age old reverse psychology thing. It's all about perception, and their big guns are trying to give the perception that they'd have a field day with her, when deep inside they know they'd be in for a battle.

The only people they've got fooled are some of us Democrats who are falling for all the nonsense about her that makes you think she can't win. Some people here need to stop being pushed around by right wing media. When it comes to Hillary, they're successfully brainwashing you.

BTW, she hasn't denied running for president when she's been asked, so what's that tell you? Also, it's been said more than once how she's studying all the polls and feeling out all the feedback to see what the political future holds for her as far as a presidential run. If she thinks she has a good chance, she'll be throwing her hat into the ring.

73. The RW is proposing her since they know she cannot win.
Being a woman, I hate to say this, but BECAUSE she is a woman, she will not win.
Not in this country, not at this time.
You will need to see a woman VP first, to get the people used to it.
Unfortunately, although I am open to non-mainstream people (being the dem that I am) I realize the prejudices others have.
Obama also seemed very talented, but I fear the time is not ripe for him. We will also have to go with a VP position to get the populace ready.
We have to go white male yet again to get rid of these neocons.
We don't need to deal with reticent predjudices in addition to overcoming this cabal.
Hopefully in the future, the populace will become more enlightened.

Not as president OR VP! She is not as well liked as you would like to believe. She can't win. I don't think she can EVER win a bid for the WH! don't get me wrong, I like a lot of what she does, but NOT as president. I liked her husband and even voted for him twice, but he is a VERY flawed man and I'm not sure if he was ever able to be up for office again if I could vote for him over someone else. The Clinton's are out of the White House permanently, IMO!

76. My take: Anything is possible. If voters are burned out with pubs
in four years, Hillary could win. Any moderate or moderate liberal can win.

Maybe Howard Dean is the best choice for DNC chair. He certainly won't be shy to point out the deceptions and dishonestly of the repukes.

Our job for the next four years is to clear the path for our eventual nominee. We must continue to recruit and educate voters. We WERE successful in '04. We did our jobs and we did it well. We have absolutely no reason to reproach ourselves. We will do even better in '08.

Think about it. Bush even with all of his dirty tricks only won by one state. Winning IS doable. We just need to be honest with ourselves as 2008 approaches. We must be honest about what the pressing issues are at that time and choose wisely. Nobody is out at this point. I support ALL serious contenders. May the best person win.

As everyone else is saying, she is way too polarizing a figure to field an effective campaign. If you want someone with name recognition and the bona fides of the son of a martyr, might I suggest Robert F Kennedy Jr.

I rarely see anyone explain why she's so polarizing. Frankly, I don't think she's anymore polarizing than anyone else. She's just an outspoken brilliant politician, and to some people that's polarizing I guess, especially if it's a woman. Hillary has it together. I admire her greatly, but our country isn't ready to accept a woman president just yet.The one time we put a woman on a presidential ticket, as a vice presidential candidate we lost. A lot of sexist issues were raised and her placement on the ticket was viewed as amusing to some people. Unfortunately, she would keep red states red and some blues ones could possibly go red.

99. Let's consider Barbara Boxer
I'm not so sure that the American people would reject a woman presidential candidate outright-- it's just that they'd specifically reject Hillary. Her negatives are off the charts, and frankly, considering her inadvisable support for the Iraq war (disaster), support for that foolishly-assembled health care plan in the 1990's (disaster), and support for that awful bankruptcy bill that kowtows to corporations and triples the burden on unfortunate individuals (utter and absolute disaster), her track record is looking terrible for independents trying to make up their minds.

OTOH Barbara Boxer has consistently won competitive elections and has a solid track record of accomplishment and support for causes that have turned out to be wise choices. She is liberal of course but not so radical that she'd automatically turn off large segments of the population, plus she probably wouldn't send the Repub fundraising machine into overdrive. Most importantly, Boxer is someone who sticks to her principles, someone that we can enormously respect.

would be how upset the right wing would be if she became the President! She might not be my first choice, but nobody would tick off the right wing more than she would. ...if there is another one, will be a Republican. Republicans own the voting machines, and dominate the media. Whether or not a Democratic candidate actually wins over more voters, we will be told otherwise.

Get rid of the voting machines, or get used to a permanent Republican monolith.
