Prediction: Dean will be tied to SF mayor's gay marriage fest this week.
The hottest button to push in the brain of the Republican's Christian Fundamentalist base is the fear and hate they have for gay and lesbian Americans. They seem to think that these people are a dire threat to their children.

Dean's support of gay rights while Governor of Vermont will be relentlessly cited while SF mayor Gavin Newsom celebrates the anniversary of his efforts to legalize gay marriage with a reception for 8,000 gay and lesbian couples in SF this week.

Watch Fox and the rest of the Goebbels Propaganda Factory spin Dean into a 'pervert' who will turn 'pedophiles' loose on our sacred children.

This is going to be ugly, folks.

1. He does not care....we do not care. Don't care what they say...stop it.
We can not let them define the issues. Dean has made it clear even last week that he will not ever back down from that stance.

It was once a position he had a hard time with, but since the GOP starting playing politics with it....he is determined to stand strongly with that community.

2. I hope he smacks that crap down and hard. It does matter what those people
think. Although I use the word 'think' loosely.

I'd like to see Dean throw the 'Jeff Gannon' scandal right in their faces on this one.

This would show real savvy on Dean's part and be a great start to a campaign against these rat-bastards who poison people's minds with hate and fear.

3. See, that's why I do have some faith in Dean. He won't embarrass us.
If he gets smacked on this, I suspect he won't weasle word, he'll just call a homophobe a homophobe.

4. Dean signed a civil unions bill. Bush said he favors civil unions
just one week before the election.

What are they gonna do, drag Bush into it, too?

Newsom backed gay marriage in conflict with state court rulings.

By contrast, Dean backed civil unions TO CONFORM WITH state court rulings.

6. This anti-gay shit is just getting old.
I'm so tired of hearing about it. I'm tired of the Fundienuts' bible-thumping rants. I'm sick of disgusting closeted 'phobes like Foulmouth and Dobcrap hypocrittin to us. The Republican Party is pushing the envelope on this issue. Gays are tired of being shoved to the edge and are getting angry of being Rover's favorite wedge issue. May the American people finally wake up and reject the tactic of gay-bashing for political gain.

7. I don't blame you. Pretty soon it'll be blacks and Jews too.
It already is, on some rightwing blogs.

I don't think the majority of people in the States realize what a desperate fight we're in right now - maybe they thought, oh well, we've got a Republican in the White House, what's the big deal?

Hah.

10. Dean & Democrats should stand and fight on civil unions issue
First of all, it's the right thing to do, and second, most Americans are pretty tolerant on civil unions -- it's gay marriage that pushes all the hot buttons. I'd like to see Dean and the Democrats stand up tall and proud on civil unions and point out the hypocrisy of Christians who forget all about Jesus' ACTUAL WORDS in their homophobic zeal to condemn gay people (maybe Jesus was just kidding about that "Do Unto Others" stuff????). Kerry should have done this, in my opinion, during the election: He was against gay marriage, against a Const. ban on gay marriage, but strongly for civil unions but was too chicken to say it. Instead, he blurted out, "Dick's daughter is a lesbian" without any moral or intellectual context at all!!! Aaarrrrgghhhh!!

11. But Dean's job as head of DNC
is to build infrastructure, raise $, and expand grass roots activities first -- not to be ever present spokesman on specific issues. But I think he will be enticed into speaking by Repubs who hope to paint him as a "liberal extemist" and make HIM the issue. If he is smart, he will take a back seat to Reid and Pelosi for public commenting and refer to them in his statements. I think he is smart and will spend his time mostly on local help for the party. We shall see.
