Reading At the White House
The White House is trying to make Bush look like he actually reads. I just saw a segment on NBC Nightly News that claimed that Bush has been raving to all his friends about the new book he is reading. The book "The case for Democracy", which was written by a former Soviet dissident who was from Irseal. The guy served 19 years in a Soviet prison. Now he is a "hawkish Irseali" parliment member, who supported the war.

2. Cheney probaby comes in at 8pm
tucks the chimp in bed, cracks open "The Case for Democracy" and says, "Once upon a time..."
Due to the Ativan, chimpy is out after the first paragraph.

4. He used the book for his Jan 20 speech..............
He used the book for his Jan 20 mspeech?

he worded his speech after this book?
snip.............
.
Bush, on Jan. 20: "So it is the policy of the United States to seek and support the growth of democratic movements and institutions in every nation and culture, with the ultimate goal of ending tyranny in our world." Sharansky, Page 278: "The diversity of the world ensures that there will always be argument and conflict. But I do believe that there can be an end to lasting tyranny - that we can live in a world where no regime that attempts to crush dissent will be tolerated."

Bush, on Jan. 20: "We do not accept the existence of permanent tyranny because we do not accept the possibility of permanent slavery." Sharansky, Page 278: "Just as the institution of slavery has been all but wiped off the face of the earth, so too can government tyranny become a thing of the past." In Jerusalem last week, Sharansky said his conversation about his book with the president convinced him that "he had not only read it but really felt it." The two moved from there to the subject of Iraq, Sharansky said.

6. Pathetic
There was a picture of * in the NYT last week with Tom Wolfe, with a caption to the effect that * raved about the book. It is truly pathetic when the president of the United States of America has to put out PR to substantiate that a) he knows how to read and b) that he reads regularly. Both are undoubtedly lies, but the really telling aspect of this is that they feel the need to put out this kind of nonsense. How can we feel anything other than contempt and shame?

8. Yes, but he's reading that slop Tom Wolfe wrote.

7. LOL
Maybe we should have a literacy test before anyone can apply for a presidential election. Seems too late now. The more they make him appear to be educated, literate, and senient, the less I trust him.

10. Laura probably reads him his bedtime stories. One thing I will say is if
he is dyslexic it makes it much more difficult to read, although it doesn't affect speech.
