Edwards, Pelosi offer themes for Democratic campaign
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON -- John Edwards, trying out possible 2008 presidential campaign themes before an audience of party faithful on Friday, rejected any suggestion that "Democrats don't stand for anything."
"It's time to build the America we all believe in," said Edwards, renewing his vice presidential campaign theme of two Americas, one rich and one poor.

Edwards, a former senator from North Carolina, came to the party's annual meeting fresh from New Hampshire, traditionally the site of the leadoff presidential primary and prime designation for those considering a White House bid.

He was one of several speakers, including the party's House leader Nancy Pelosi, at the Democratic National Committee's annual meeting. Democrats on Saturday will elect Howard Dean as their new chairman.
Edwards made fun of President Bush's call for an "ownership society."

"George Bush's ownership society is nothing but an exclusive club with doors closed to people who work hard for a living," Edwards said. House leader Pelosi told the crowd "to see the difference between Democrats and Republicans, just look at the budget."
