"The Scream" was not that bad.
Edited on Wed Jan-21-04 07:18 PM by bunnyj
I just finally saw it. It was nowhere near as bad as the threads on this board have made it out to be. Nowhere near as bad. Honestly, I was expecting him to have turned purple with fire coming out his nose and steam coming out of his ears!

He was tired, hoarse, and trying to cheer up his troops. This was NOT a big deal.

And Dean is not my first pick, or even my second or third. But this was really a big deal about nothing. Dean supporters, take heart. This was much ado about nothing.

BTW, do I get some sort of prize for starting the 1,000,000th "Scream" post? :)

Flowers? Balloons? Anything?

1. It wasn't that good either

I think the scream in and of itself wasn't terrible...just ironic that it came from a guy whose temperment the media has been questioning for some time.

2. I agree... just saw it on tweety...
who made a major big deal oveer it. For cripes sakes I find chimpass*'s DAILY LIES much more offensive. That should be what we are talking about.

4. So far all the Dean attacks have been mountains out of molehills...
It's the "death by a thousand paper cuts" syndrome.

21. has Dean invented the internet yet?
he will eventually...

if Bush got a mere FRACTION of the scrutiny and attention that Dean has been getting, teh WH would've been vacant by the end of 2001

the media is complicit, guilty, and deserves the same fate as the other betrayers of the American people

5. It was not the worse scream ever. It was not the "screaming" alone....
that hurt him. This was percieved as being angry about his poor showing and he let his anger be very transparent. That's what hurt him!

7. I watched it live, and I never saw 'anger'.
That's pure 'spin', by people who want to have it spun that way.

11. I didn't see anger either, CL.
He was smiling, and rallying the troops. He was also very emotional. But I didn't see his actions as angry, or pouting.

Maybe we just aren't comfortable with such naked displays of emotion? I don't know...

Like I said, he's not my main man, but give the guy a break!

6. I posted the same thing the other day and I'm not a Dean supporter...
If anything the ridiculous tempest over this is making me more sympathetic towards him. If he loses and we choose a different candidate I would want it to be because of issues or legitimate personality concerns. Not because of an unguarded moment of excitement with his supporters.

12. to me it looked like
a sports fan cheerleading for his team. No more - no less. And lets face it, most politicians really get into their sports - inexplicably, bush even brought the subject to the SOTU.

10. I'm amazed at how superficial we have become that this one episode
has become the supposed "seminal event" for Dean. I saw it three times on CNBC on Primary Night as I was working on other things. The first time, it was a little jarring, but he just seemed overly enthusiastic in trying to rally the troops. To be honest (and I'm not a Dean first rung supporter at this time), I was more bothered by the fact he didn't thank the people of Iowa nor congratulate Kerry and Edwards. But, I just figured it was an oversight.

Much, much, much ado about nothing, IMO. Unfortunately, we seem as ready to continue kicking this dead horse, as the media is in making it an issue.

13. IT was THAT bad... but not like the media has made it out to be
Looking at the cable news you'd think Dean just slaughtered a village with his anger and hate. But it's clear Dean was just acting upbeat and goofy.

AND THAT IS THE PROBLEM. If one wants to be president you cannot be caught sceaming and whooping around like a lunatic. It was scary that a grown man on stage would do that (and the sleeves rolling up bit). WOW it was very bad and I'm not surprised he is getting so much negative feedback from it. BUT the media is definetly framing it to be worse in this sort of "Dr. Dean is filled with HATE AND ANGER" which he clearly isn't... just lost control in the moment.

17. Sad, but true.
Seen in context - live on national TV, sandwiched between Edwards and Gephardt - it was worse than bad. I immediately said to three others with me: He is finished. Sad, but true.

15. It's actually turning out to be a great thing --
People are so numb to it, that the whole "Dean has a temper thing" no longer has any power. It's now a non-issue. What's more, Kerry now faces the front runner bashing that Dean took for so long. This leaves Dean in incredibly good shape in New Hampshire.

16. your percieved quality of the now famous "scream" is irrelevant
its the effect it had.. which matters.
so,
if effect=bad then scream=bad

22. Surprised By Reaction
I don't watch much television news because the cheerleading for the chimp is just too painful. Anyway, I was telling my wife about the speech I had read so much about on the web. When we finally saw it, we looked at each other and asked, "What's the big deal?"

Dean isn't my first choice either but I feel sorry for the bad rap he's getting for that speech. We live in a strange world.
