A much greater gift than money--donate your time to Dean's DNC
Edited on Sat Feb-12-05 11:51 AM by jpgray
We need progressive folks working on the local level now more than ever. We finally have someone in charge who will listen to us, so let's make sure our voices are there to be heard. Despite what some may say about the insignificance of the position policywise, Dean's moderate qualities, etc., I think this does represent a chance for us to become more aggressive and more active in our opposition to the Republicans, because Dean will have control over fundraising for the party. The primary financial support network (and thus the primary policy consultant) has long been large corporations. If we can supplant them in primacy financially, we can and must also supplant them in terms of influence on policy decisions. To do that, it is vitally important that those progressives with time work locally with the party. Don't do it if you have way too much on your plate, and money is a great start, but please volunteer if you can. Thanks.

1. As a matter of fact, today
I am meeting with fellow activists regarding a Petition drive to fight the crazy Governor of Ohio, Taft.

snip>

Broad overview: Ohio legislators recently passed a law raising
the limit on campaign contributions from $2,500 to $10,000.
Children older than 7 can contribute $10,000. A family of
four, with children older than 7, could then donate $40,000 in
a cycle. This gives a disproportionate voice to the wealthy.

We need people to circulate a petition to stay this law. We
have until March 14th, otherwise it will take effect at the end
of March. We already have the petitions, we need shoe leather.
We need 200,000 signatures state-wide. If you can help in this
effort please contact me ASAP. I need to know how many
petitions we'll need. Just click "Contact Organizer" on the
Meet up.com page for Dayton Democracy for America. I need your
answer as quickly as you can get it to me. Those who reply in
the affirmative will be contacted with more details.

2. Our local progressives are DEFINITELY "fired up"!!!!
Dean is the very best thing that has happened to "grassroots" in a very long time!!!

He'll have plenty of volunteers in this part of rural America!!!

Very exciting times ahead!!!
