CNN Poll: Most DNC member want more moderate platform?
Check out the poll associated with the news on Dean (Interative - Democrats want changes). 52% of DNC Committee members want the platform to go more moderate? Only 23% More liberal?
http://www.cnn.com

Is that representative of "grass roots"? Seems to me that most Democrats want the party to move further to the left. Not go in a moderate direction. If that is so how to we get rid of these committee members and replace them with people who really represent the will of the people?

2. Dean moderate on most issues
Left and right are so ambiguous. Despite his reputation, Dean is quite moderate on most issues, such as balanced budget, gun control, and the envirnoment.

What we need isn't a move to the left or right, but a firm stand on issues of principal.

3. Moderate and liberal to me are almost useless terms.

Where to go on specific issues is a better question that has the potential to create actual information and discourse.

I believe in a strong defense and working in the international community whenever possible. I think we should be fiscally responsible and get rid of pork and roll back the tax cuts. I don't believe in the Iraq war but do not believe in peace at absolutely any price either. I believe in personal responsbility and in opportunity for all. I think we need to make sure children get cared for and health care is accessible. I think corporations are way to powerful and we need more environmental controls. Am I a DINO a RINO, a progressive, an independent or a liberal?

5. True, but what is right / left?
Edited on Sat Feb-12-05 02:58 PM by podnoi
Traditionally I am not "left". But I find more and more that compared to the Right I am far left. Universal Health Care, Strengthen Social Security, Economy *for the people* not for the rich, Clean Environment, Justice not ruled by money, Privacy protections, labor protections, moves to moderate outsourcing.

These are now left, to some extent, of even the current Democratic Leadership. Never before had I identified with the "left". But these used to be moderate ideas, they are now left and I think most democrats want these to be strong parts of the platform.

6. Welcome to DU.
I agree - the radical nature of the republican party recently makes most independents, and moderates of both parties look like lefties in comparison.

7. It seems to me that most people want some common sense
to be exercised and the platform that to be supported to be fair, just, and humane. I'm kinda getting sick of this whole liberal, progressive, moderate argument.

8. Those are names the republicans use to divide and conquer their enemies.
Why should we make it any easier for them. We need conviction and a populist uprising more than anything.

9. Well, they want those payoffs to keep rolling in.
Gotta keep the lobbyists happy or no more dinners, vacations, and nice hotels to rest their weary wallets in.

10. Let's not and say we did.
Honestly. Be like the Bushies--just say we're moderating our stance and then do as we bloody well want.

Just as I'm thinking we could declare victory over Bush's rotten, stinking carcass of a SS piratization any ol' day now if it suits our purposes.

13. 60 some-odd percent also said that they wanted a FIGHTER.
Only 23% wanted to compromise.

That's why we have Dean as our new chairman.
