Louisiana Progressive Activists are mobilizing like never before.(well maybe not NEVER but certainly since the civil rights movement) We've got some great networks especially in New Orleans and Baton Rouge area. In a mear couple of months, local activists promoted the Jazz Funeral for Democracy, which was a HUGE success. Somewhere around 1500 people attended this protest/celebration of what WAS democracy.
People came from all over the state but also there were attendees from all over the world who came to protest the policies of the current administration at the Jazz Funeral for Democracy. We mourned for a country that has lost its way with a war of aggression in Iraq, curtailed civil liberties and due process in the name of security, and policies which consistently value the interests of corporations ahead of the interests of the people.
THE TIME FOR MOURNING HAS PASSED, but the need for action continues. On March 19, 2005, the energy from the Jazz Funeral will be continued with New Democracy Rising. On the 2nd anniversary of the Iraq invasion, the people are standing up to say we are against this immoral war, and we will not be silenced.
Planning is still underway, but make your reservations today! New Orleans is BEAUTIFUL in March. For photos of our previous event, and other related information, go to:
