C-Span II/Confessions of an Economic Hit Man...Anyone Watching? 9:46a.m.
Edited on Sun Feb-13-05 10:08 AM by KoKo01
Look for a replay...it's still on an fantastic! How we destabilze countries by using the World Bank to go into countries and use, GE, Bechtel, Halliburton and others to rebuild their infrastructure and stack their courts with people we can use.

Perkins said it's using our CIA and he used to be a Hit Man involved in this. Sounds like an excellent book to buy.

Tune in!

We spend the hour with John Perkins, a former respected member of the international banking community. In his book Confessions of an Economic Hit Man he describes how as a highly paid professional, he helped the U.S. cheat poor countries around the globe out of trillions of dollars by lending them more money than they could possibly repay and then taking over their economies. John Perkins describes himself as a former economic hit man - a highly paid professional who cheated countries around the globe out of trillions of dollars.

20 years ago Perkins began writing a book with the working title, "Conscience of an Economic Hit Men."

Perkins writes, "The book was to be dedicated to the presidents of two countries, men who had been his clients whom I respected and thought of as kindred spirits - Jaime Roldós, president of Ecuador, and Omar Torrijos, president of Panama. Both had just died in fiery crashes. Their deaths were not accidental. They were assassinated because they opposed that fraternity of corporate, government, and banking heads whose goal is global empire. We Economic Hit Men failed to bring Roldós and Torrijos around, and the other type of hit men, the CIA-sanctioned jackals who were always right behind us, stepped in.

More of the interview here...and maybe you can get the audio archive.

Do Americans believe themselves STEALING FROM THE POOR IN ORDER TO CONCENTRATE WEALTH IN A FEW HANDS?

Americans haven't a clue.

3. Poppy Bush Is Right In The Middle Of It All
Within days of the Iraq invasion, Poppy & Baker and their Carlyle Group pals were running around Europe trying using the World Bank to "reschedule Iraq's debts" (translation: let them plunder whatever the oil and whatever else they can loot)...just the latest sorid chapter in this sorid family and bank's history.

One day I hope we really learn what happened in Latin America in the 80's...the place where the Carlyle Group and World Bank really did a lot of damage. Now they're doing it to the Middle East, and the bank continues to keep Africa in third world status for the cheap resources.

How ironic the Neo-Cons fret endlessly about "one world government" and demonize the U.N. as some global conspiracy, yet are the biggest supporters of enterprises that have done just that. I guess it's who your friends are.

5. It's just that they want to BE that government -- they are, essentially.
I love what they condemn, accuse others of and deny themselves, because those modes tell you what they're up do.

6. Perkins did mention he had worked in Panama...and got into CIA
destabilizing the developing nations. His book sounds like an excellent read. I'm going to check it out today at the bookstore and see what he has about Poppy.

It sounds like he's blowing what we've been doing "behind the scenes" for decades....and he was excellent in expressing it...If is book is as good as this talk then we all need to buy it.

He says it's up to WE the People to change this.. Our politicians won't do it...(Well...we DU'ers know that for sure!)

7. I'm Definitely Watching This Later...
I wish I could remember the movie that portrayed the clandestine meetings of Ollie North & Noriega...I think it was an HBO movie...that allueded to the drugs for weapons schemes that were laundered in banks in Panama. Of course this brings up the crack cocaine flood that ensued. I know that goes far deeper than the scope of what Perkins is covering.

In the 70's, I had a copy of the "People's Almanac" by Irving Wallace & David Wallashinki...it was my prime desktop reference for the rest of the decade. In it there were profiles of each nation under "Who rules" and "Who Really Rules". Also in the nation listing were companies like General Electric, Citicorp, Exxon and so on...and how their economies dwarfed, and in many cases, dominated those of many other nations. It also had the World Bank listed (at that time under the rule of Robert McNamera) and how it was perpetuating the African and Latin American plantation systems through creating debtor societies.

I only hope one day we get a full picture of the connections of Carlyle, BCCI, Haliburton and everyone and everything inbetween. No doubt the ultimate criminal enterprise.

22. I still have the People's Almanac somewhere around my house, bought the
second one too, but it wasn't as good, was a bit commercial. But the first one was one of the best resource materials I've owned. Even the chapter on Nostradamus made for really interesting reading...

11. His book is excellent! It needs to be shared with everyone
who wonders "why they hate us". We have been raping this planet for our own selfish desires for centuries and Perkins details the history of our foreign policy since the 1980s. I urge you all to get the book, read it and then donate it to your public library!

should be a du book club book.
just to clarify from a previous post, he did not have anything to do with the work of the 'jackals', as he calls them, cia and otherwise. he talks about them, and people who were their victims, and why.
but that is not what he did. he was an 'economist' aka whore.

13. Here's a link to Perkins Organization "Dream Change.org" working for
change around the world.

Dream Change Home Page ~ WAKING OUR WORLD!

“When you look at the world we humans have created you may conclude that it was created by sleeping people, because awake, aware, conscious people would manifest a very different world.” – John Perkins, Dream Change founder and author

Dream Change was founded in the early 1990s to change consciousness. With the new millennium came the realization that a powerful grass-roots movement is necessary to channel the energy from our awakened individual consciousness into actions that create a more compassionate and just world. WOW! (WAKING OUR WORLD!) is that movement.

20. Going to join. thanks for the link. An excerpt of suggestions from JP
Edited on Sun Feb-13-05 06:21 PM by hector459
for preview of what this man is about. I feel like he is my soul mate.

"This book ends on a very positive note. John Perkins describes his reasons for optimism and invites us to create a better world. It is important to remember that every task begins with the desire and intention to make a difference. As facilitator, ask the group to consider adopting some of the actions below and open the floor to discussion:

-Replace the urge to go shopping with an activity such as reading or
exercising.
-Reduce your consumption of goods, including oil.
-Use the money saved from the above two items to become part of an
organization that supports your values (Rainforest Action Network,
Union of Concerned Scientists, Dream Change, etc.)
-Downsize your home, wardrobe, car, office, and other material
possessions.
-Protest against “free” trade agreements and against companies that
exploit desperate people in sweatshops or that pillage the
environment." http://www.dreamchange.org/index.php?module=pagemaster&PAGE_user_op=view_page&PAGE_id=8&MMN_position=9:9

18. I've been pumping this book for weeks (check previous links)
It is an eye-opener and should make Americans wake up but it won't. They would rather watch Swift boat ads on TV and believe whatever Rush and Hannity and Coulter tell them to believe. Braindead and they must be proud of it!

But please read this book.

19. It's all so clear now. All the oil men in the White House, Halliburton in
Iraq, Hugo Chavez filling up sandbags, digging foxholes and chumming up to Fidel Castro. The Saudis, the Bushes. People setting themselves on fire at WTO meetings. And, I've finally figured out why we hate communism so much. It's bad for business.

What a lightbulb moment.

Thanks for the post. Now what? I feel like I did the first time I read Noam Chomsky.

Here's another light bulb moment: Take this whole premise of getting poor countries into so much debt they are "owned" by the corporatacracy and apply it to your average American schmoe. Now, you see why we have no time to pay attention to what these people are doing in our names. We're too busy paying the bills. And, even when we do pay attention, what difference does it make? Whoever THEY want to win, wins.

25. Your last paragrpah is spot on. What is happening to middle class is...
...exactly the same thing that's happened to developing countries.

In the same way that a lot of private companies want a huge chunck of the wealth created by the development of overseas economies, even if that means that those countries might not see their economies develop fully, a lot of private banks are getting a big chunck of the wealth the middle class creates when they try to stay in the middle class, even though that means that they have to work more and get less from being middle class.

Foreign aid is a tool to exploit weak governments and economies in order to gain easy access to their natural resources and is used to further bolster our own currency.
