He might try to hang on through 2/3, but he has no money to really do anything but keep his name on the ballots. I saw a Lieberman commercial here in AZ on the TV, so he still has some illusions.

6. Lieberman is important to outcome of SC

The South Carolina primary is only one week after NH. SC is critical to Edwards that was born there. Lieberman is not going to do well in NH and he can help Edwards by dropping out or hurt him by staying in. It is interesting indeed. He should be done by Feb 3 and in my opinion that will be good for the entire party.

9. It's hard to predict how a dropout might affect Edwards

Lieberman probably would not attract a lot of SC votes, IMHO. If he drops out, wouldn't they as likely go to other candidates as to Edwards?

The only realistically possible dropout that I could see definitely helping Edwards in SC would be Sharpton's, particularly if Sharpton were to be supportive of Edwards before the primary.

But then I haven't predicted anything correctly yet.

I have staunch conservatives in South Carolina, and the only democrat I can remember them really liking is Lieberman ("he's such a nice guy", which he is).
